Getting served at half time

As we know, it is almost impossible to get served at half time when the attendance is north of 11k...
This Sat I spent 15 minutes walking around joining and rejoining endless queues in a desperate attempt to cram in a pint before the start of the second half.
Needless to say I gave up.

At the moment, the only way you can be sure to get a drink at half time and not miss any of the football, is if you've managed to drag a fairweather mate along to the game, who decides his thirst for booze is more important than watching the match and wanders off out on 38 minutes...

I get that the ground is small and there not enough areas to be able to serve up...and while we are still at GP, that's something we have to live with...

But why the hell does the club not employ individual beer sellers? You know, like the ones you get at festivals, out door events, theatres... chaps with cans strapped around them, or a lager keg backpack that gets funnelled into a pint...you don't actually even need a bar...

Just have a few dozen of them walking around and so everyone who wants a drink can get a drink...

I'm sure from a revenue point of view they will take in far more sales than the costs of employment...

Getting served at half time

There are some places in the frozen north who run out of pies long before half time!

Getting served at half time

It's been suggested several times before and never adopted.

Pre-order your drinks in The HIve before the game and collect during the interval.

I did scour the forums to see if something similar had been mentioned before (couldn't find anything)....cos it's not exactly rocket science...

I mean, was the idea ever actually taken to the club? Did they at least look in to it?

I cannot see how it wouldn't be in the club's best interest??

What is it with some people who can't seem to go to football and not drink themselves into oblivion.....(Day 109 without a sherbet,Tis the devil's brew)

I was waiting for a post like yours.

Please tell me how wanting a pint at half time equates to "drinking themselves into oblivion".

Getting served at half time

It's a conundrum. Queue for a beer or queue for a piss!

Been done to death this. Brentford has never sold fewer than 500 pints at half time so why do they not pre pour this number or thereabouts . ''Tis madness

Yeah or that...
Just have 100 pints lined up ready to go...
That's what other clubs do...

If they can't see the logic in any of the above then I am astounded that they're in the positions they're in. I mean this is elementary business.

Never have a problem getting a beer.
You just have to be a bit clever.

Getting served at half time

Even when attendance is well under 10k, me and my mates gave up attempting to get a beer at half-time long ago.

Even on occasions when you can miraculously get served before the second half kicks off, at most you get what...5-7 minutes to down your pint? Not exactly enjoyable.

It's why I've become a boring sod and I just go for a cup of tea at half-time, as I can at least take that back to my seat with me.

What happend to the little beer stations in New road we had ?

I used pre order & collect at half time but you def can't do that anymore ...

Whilst appreciating that I am your idol. It would be nice if just once you came up with your own material rather than reintroducing my thoughts and suggestions as your own...

The beer bottle stand is a godsend compared to the past, when you had to go into the hive and even on a 5k attendance you wouldn't get served until 4 mins to go.

That said I agree on games that are 11k+ that isn't sufficient either. I didn't even bother trying on Sat (it's often worse if we're winning or it's sunny! Sat had both!). The bottle bar is the same as pre-poured pints though so is a good idea, it's just a shame there couldn't be another to relieve some pressure.

.....i wear an incontinence pad to football matches....cut's out the middle man.

the new'ish one they put up towards brook road is decent before the game, never a queue.

I've repeatedly mentioned similar in the surveys by the club (certainly in relation to food - and probably drink too) as what could be done to improve the matchday experience. I've given up bothering. By the time I get from my seat to a queue I'm left with a half-assed selection of what's left in the case of food and usually missing the start of the second half. Similarly for a beer - I'd be left with a choice of necking it (at best) or missing plenty of the second half to drink it normally.

It wouldn't cost a lot to do. Big bucket(s) with ice and a load of beers/cider cans in. Stand should accept cash only AND exact money only (with big signs saying "NO CHANGE GIVEN - EXACT MONEY ONLY"). One person takes the money and immediately hands over appropriate number of drinks, whilst one in background is re-filling the cups, as necessary, so there's always some ready. The club would make more money and it would ease the pressure on the bar queues.

I haven't bothered with a half-time beer since the 2010 season, I would guess. It takes too long and the bottleneck, of the ER and BR corner, takes too long to get out of ER too!

Plus, the beer on offer is rank. :yuck:

Getting served at half time

The queue for plastic bottles of beer was too long to bother with on Saturday and I got there on 40 mins and we have given up the Hive this seasonI. It was much easier when we were playing Port Vale in div one. Small price to pay I suppose.

Getting served at half time

Buy a beer on your way in before the game and place it down on the floor outside ER with your initials on it.
You can then pick it up at H/T and drink with no queues to worry about. :sorted:

Or just take your own #cans in with you and never worry about a queue again.

If your worried about being searched and having them confiscated... Buy some French bread... Hollow out the inside and place cans/bottles inside... Replace a little bit of bread on top to disguise further... Wrap bread in cling film or foil and that's it. Fools stewards...

Buy a coffee, buy a pint, pour away coffee, pour beer in coffee cup.

A well known, perma tanned GPGer has been seen drinking from a Starbucks cup on many occasions away from home.

will ***** ***** and his friends please get off the piss !

Getting served at half time

just before the first half kicks off, go around the Hive/Stripes and pick up any discarded partially drunk pints and spit backs and pour into one pint cup. Ask the bar staff to put a lid on it ready for you to collect at half time :sorted:

Getting served at half time

Myself and the little group I go to games with take it in turns to get them in at half time, which means one of us heading to the hive/stripes in the 36th min. Not ideal but at least they show the game on tv. My hope is that LR will have a significantly bigger bar area, kiosks with beer on tap with reduced queuing times.

I cannot be alone in bringing a vacuum flask of hot beverage. The contents are never checked. I am not advocating drinking in the stand but there would be nothing to stop you taking flask out back at HT.

Getting served at half time

I'd rather go without than drink smuggled warm cans of Fosters.

Spurs' new ground will have a new beer delivery system which will enable staff to deliver 10,000 pints per minute:eek:

Blimey that should keep even Fleet John happy provided they have a Strongbow tap!
