Gibbs deal not done and dusted
Brentford have yet to confirm the signing of Plymouth defender Paul Gibbs despite the fact that he passed a medical last week.
TEAMtalk reported last week that he had signed a three year deal at Griffin Park, and coach Ray Lewington sang his praises in a interview.
Lewington said he had signed on the dotted line, but Bees fans have been left baffled as to why no official confirmation has been released.
Gibbs boss at Argyle was none the wiser, insisting that as far as he was concerned the deal had gone through on a Bosman free transfer.
Chairman Dan McAuley confirmed the 27-year-oldÕs departure on the Devon side's official website.

I think that you must distinguish between the Official Site's policy of only confirming things when everything is signed and sealed, and the Chronicle's story which they know is true - and even Ray Lew. PJ's explanation og why the Official Site hasn't confirmed the signings is right. The players concerned are not currently contracted or registered to Brentford FC. It is 99.999% certain that they will be in the fullness of time, but that is why the Official Site is correct in saying they are not Brentford players. Now you could argue that the Official Site's policy is too cautious, but imagine the howls if it said they were Brentford players but that 0.001% chance came off and they went somewhere else.

The irony here is that Teamlies only picked up on this because people on this messageboard were questioning the official site's silence!!

It's quite simple. As Ed said in earlier messages the Official Site will only confirm when confirmed as it were.
The signing of a player under bosman free is not able to be 100% complete until his contract has run out and as most, if not all, contracts run out at the end of June (i think), he is unable to complete his signing till then.
However, when it is announced that players have signed before this date it is a 'pre-contract' agreement.
