Hello there, it depends on how you're travelling up to here. If you're going by train, then it's easy. Walk out of the main entrance of the high street, go left, then left again so you're walking up Balmoral Road. Keep following that road until you get to the away end.

Away Pubs. Brentford will probably take a fair amount of fans by train, and will probably be just looking for the first pub in sight, so a good one to look in is the Southern Belle. It's certainly not the best. As you leave the station it's right in front of you. It's at the start of our High Street, with another pub two doors down, then a McDonalds, a Wimpy across the road, and more pubs and food/shopping places as you go on.

A good one to recommend to away fans is the Livingstone Arms - another favourite with away fans. As you walk up Balmoral Road towards the ground, take a right at the junction - just before Priestfield Road where the away turnstiles are - and walk along for a tiny bit. Then on a corner you'll see the pub - football memorabilia and all.

If you really want to make the most out of your day, then go to Rochester. Part of our "city", and home to a nice castle and cathedral all near the main high street, a very Victorian place. The high street (as you leave the station walk up to the main road and turn right - follow that...is that best Gills fans? I haven't been there sober for quite a while) is home to lots of really nice pubs, visited by gorgeous women.
You can get the train to Gillingham from London Victoria - they're good and only 50 minutes journey - or the London Charing X/Waterloo East/London Bridge line. This one takes another 20, 30 minutes and goes through some God-awful parts of London. And Medway! Rochester is 2 stops before Gillingham, though some trains won't stop there.

I would just endorse the Gills fans view that if you are on the train, then Rochester is a much better place for a beer than Gillingham. It is 2 stops (five minutes) before but is close by as the trains stop at all the medway towns. It is a very pleasant town with a nice cathedral, castle and a dickensian theme.

After the Charlton match I had the pleasure of the dreaded special bus service replacing trains on my way home to Margate and I had to change at Gillingham and had a pint in the pub opposite the station and found it fairly unpleasant and not particularly welcoming.

I am looking forward to Saturday though as it is a virtual home game for me, a forty minute drive up the M2.

Regarding the trains, make sure you avoid the stopping service. Look for the Ramsgate or Dover trains from Victoria as they only stop at Bromley b4 the Medway towns.

Ummm I think a little point is being missed here. If you pay for a train from London Vic to Gillingham then as far as I am aware you will have to pay extra to get off and on again at Rochester, am I correct ?

You are allowed to break your journey on the return leg but I've not done it on the outward leg before.

By all accounts there aren't any barriers at Rochester (I'm getting it confirmed by a local at the moment) so hopping off the train shouldn't be a problem.

I've just rung Sillingham to say that £13 a kid is a p!sstake. I told a lady that 3 adults and 2 kids are possibly coming down from Northampton but should a family ticket not be available with a proper kid price in it then only 3 bigguns would be venturing. She was a nice lady and understood, went away and had a chat and the outcome was that only 3 adults will be going.
Fecking disgrace, they charge more for a kid than we do for an adult, she says that their fans aren't happy, I told her that their lot were never happy anyway but I could understand this one.
I hope no damage is caused to their welcoming place.

I don't know about the lockers, but you could try and drop it off at a local hotel. You may be charged if they suspect you are not a guest who has just checked out, but I'm sure you would be able to come to an agreement with the concierge.

Yep. The faster trains go at 3 and 33 minutes past the hour and take around 50 minutes

All tickets can be brought on the day,but if you are a student make sure you take your student card as gillingham are supposed to be quite strict on this,i dont know why concidering that juniors tickets are only £2 cheeper.

Anyone know whether you actually pay cash on the turnstiles or whether you need to queue at a separate ticket office?

I'm going to do my damndest to get there but don't finish work in deepest darkest Farnborough untill five and can't get out any earlier - apparently my recent activities in leaving early for midweek away games have been "frowned upon."

I should be able to arrive at Gillingham station at 19.33 but having to queue for a ticket means I could end up missing 20 minutes or so....
