Going to games alone

Been going to watch the bees home and away with my dad since I was about 13, but now that he cant come on saturdays anymore im tryna convince myself that it's not weird to go alone to away games. Anyone else else do this/done this? Is it worth it? Im 17 so feel abit reluctant, but dont want to miss games.

And I will feel a bit of a larry rofl

Have gone to loads of home games alone over the years but only the odd few away.....its not that bad aslong you just go to the game and thats it plus theres always someone there you will recognise...

I sometimes go on my own if the 2/3 guys I normally go with can't come.

Not nearly as much fun TBH even if I always see some familiar faces

Always go by myself unless a cousin pops along, it's not bad, get to analyse the game more.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

I've been going with my dad for over 30 years. There is no way I could go without him. It wouldn't feel right.

Nothing wrong with going alone. I've got various friends and family I go with but if there was a game I really wanted to go to but didn't have anyone to go with I wouldn't let that stop me. Often find it means you end up chatting to other fans and end up making new friendships.

Went on my own to away games few times when i was 15/16. is it worth it? Yeah because didn't care who I went with just wanted to watch the bees :)

I generally go on my own now. Doesn't bother me as there always someone around to have a Bees chat and a bit of banter.
That said, I love bringing my 10 year old cousin along to away games. He loves a bit of Brentford, all the terrace songs and the atmosphere. At the end of the day, it is what you make it and we are always good value in some shape or form.

I'm probably gunna head up to Preston on me jack jones then. Am Going Donny and swindon with my mates, so if Preston is good I might go to more. Cheers lads :sorted::D

I nearly always go games home and away alone. As others have said you get to chat to those around you.

Just a suggestion go to an away game and observe how many fans are sitting on their own (stating the obvious they will be the ones with at least one empty seat both sides of them). You will see there are quite a few. There is no stigma to going to football on your own, it's no different to going into a pub for a quick pint alone

Probably done around 90% of games over the last 10-15 years on my own pal (aged 32 now!) which is about 10 games a season ish - majority being away. Nothing wrong with it, you'll always bump into someone you recognise for a quick chat and a hello - give it a bash pal - think the best bet if you want to go away is try supports coach - never done it myself but guessing the same people are on it week in -week out - you'll soon hear a load of stories!

I've gone to games alone for many years and because of that I have met some great people that I now go to games with.

Don't be afraid to go alone, you might make some great friends with same thing in common - Brentford!

Yeah i'm gunna try it out at the Preston away game in November. Hopefully I bump into some people I recognise :D And yeah I was hoping to take the supporters it would make it much easier, haha lol

Over the years I've normally gone to home games with my father (friend and sister used to go but they fell away) but do go on my own. Not many people around me in the West Country would be desperate to go and watch Brentford! Just thinking about some of the great games I went to alone - the promotion at Peterborough, though I wish my father had gone as well, promotion at Cambridge (ditto). And some of the bad - Bristol City away - relegation.

While a student I realised this: If you say wanted to go to watch a Danish film at a cinema or watch Brentford at Bury and knew no one who wanted to go, if you didn't go you'd be the same person in the same situation (possibly a saddo, possibly not) except you wouldn't have seen the film / game etc. that you wanted to see.

Just thinking about this there are people I positively would not want to watch football with - has to be someone who is clued up about what is going on (probably rules out most Brentford supporters)

However, now I feel much less of a compulsion to see Brentford if my father doesn't go, whereas between 1990-93 I would have crawled over broken glass.

It's one of those things, it's a bit weird before you do it, but it's fine when you do.

If someone else can't go with you, are you really not going to watch the club you support? If the option is go alone, or don't go....I'd choose go alone.

Its not too bad, had some great days watching the Bees alone but going with mates/family is always better. Travelling alone strangely leads you to meeting and getting to know more people than you normally would (i hope that makes sense).

Yes I meet loads of chaps who go alone, not stigma or anything attached. just meet, find out they are bees and have a drink with them. its brentford innit :shrug:

I go alone a lot , my mates will only come for "big games" or if there's a cheap ticket deal.

At the end of the day you'll be surrounded by like minded Brentford fans. Where you don't have to explain how many divisions below the EPL League 1 is or it's not Brentwood/ Bradford you support.

There's quite a few Bees fans who go to matches "alone", you will not look strange !!

I didn't really think that many people went alone to bees away games, especially younger lads :/ But it definitely sounds like its worth a try

I went to Hull City away on my own when I was 15! Grainger winner for 2-1. happy days :) All the bigger cool boys that were there are now my mates. eg. ISB, Billy Hunt, Nick Logan etc. hopefully you will have better luck than I.

theres something about celebrating with strangers that cements you as a club supporter.it will never replace family and friends but the connection will last.have to admit hugging a brummie in Wembley Stadium when Pearce scored his penalty in Euro 96.

As has been mentioned by others like, I've been going alone for 10+ years. I meet and chat to plenty of people, even when I want to be left alone. :cry:

I used to go alone. Then met loads of people + started to go as a group all over the place.
After a while, once they got to know me, I ended up going on my own again.
But I'm not bitter.
The smell of burgers + onions at home games puts people off a bit, as people often move away from me during the home games

I used to go to all the games on my own when I was at school mainly because all my mates went to f***ing Ra Ras or Chelsea. Funny though, no one ever went to Fulscum.

Went to Halifax on the window licker bus a few years ago when I was 15 as my mum wanted me be save. The bloke sitting next to me was also alone and introduced me to the window licker secret lemonade drinking club.... Needless to say my mum was not best pleased when I rocked home out of my bin...... 9 months later went to Cambridge on my own for the championship show down alone and ended up getting drunk on the train with another random I met and ended up in some pub in Cambridge (biker type) place with the partition wall being smashed through by a load of over excited bees.... Brillant days out that I will never forget..... So nothing wrong with going by yourself

Have done many.Not as bad as you think.Next home game is one that springs to mind,but no doubt i will see sheerwaterbee who is another lonesomesole.Bless him.

Poor Sheerwater. Local to us. We can take him to away games if he's lonely - as long as he promises to pay Paul (USA)'s food bill for the trip. After paying £63.89 for that privilege he might then decide "lonesome" is a good career move :cool:

The reason I go to away games alone now is that every time i went away with Horsham back in the early 80's it generally ended up very messy and very bloody...... :beer: :box:

I'm now a middle aged parent and stick to myself if at all possible. However sometimes Horsham blindsides me on the Braemar Rd forecourt and I'm stuck with him again... :banghead: :D

We don't drink.......or fight :cool:.....and have some *ahem* "interesting" debates on all things in life, particularly if certain "Taxi Driver" blesses us with his presence for the journey :)

Been going on my own for years. The thing is with away games in particular, you can always start chatting the person stood next to you. Dont be shy. Have a moan about the ref out loud and i bet you will get a response!
