Gratitude !
Wow, what a day!
Finally, those of us who have been supporters for some time (Myself since 1971) get some vindication for the taunts at school and in the workplace about not supporting a ‘real’ football club.
There are so many wonderful memories and characters that come to mind over the journey, but I am going to say THANKYOU to two people only, with an honourable mention for the dearly departed Robert Rowan.
Of course the current management and coaching staff (Kevin O’Connor gets a name check) deserve high praise, but none of them would be there if it wasn’t for these two lovely gentlemen.
Firstly, Matthew Benham, of course. Not just for the money, but for the vision, the determination, the strategic thinking and the loyalty shown to those that bought into his dream.
Secondly, Peter Gilham, Mr Brentford. There was a time he was the only person at the club who would pick up the phone and sort out a problem. For him to so steadfastly rouse us all over the microphone to get behind the team, in good times and bad, over such a long period is just a tremendous example of enthusiasm and love.
Thankyou both, you will never know just how appreciated you really are !
