Football clubs are not viable business ventures any more in any league unless you have a world wide fan base and float it on the stock market, i.e Manchester United
If you look at clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus they are in far more debt ridden circumstances than we are, they also have far greater fan bases to bring in extra revenue.
On par with the rest of the thread take DJ for example, BFC sold him to BCFC for 500k, giving us some money to "save" the clubs future, but what would have happened if we had held on to him til the end of the season and gambled??
Maybe promotion and surely a larger sum of money(prize money) for it than we gained by selling DJ. Add to that the greater possibilty of a premiership club coming in for DJ in the closed season and offering us at least 500K, making the deal actually worth far more!
Football and the finance involved in the game is all ifs and buts what is important is the club making the right decisions at the right time and being prepared to gamble on occassions, some pay off and some don't again that is business.
Personnally i believe the board needs to be made up of both business men to run the club and make it a viable business and supporters who want to see the club succeed on the pitch.
I would imagine it to be a difficult compromise if evryone on the board wanted only one or the other,
