Apologies for bouncing an old thread but couldnt find a more relevant one. Was prompted by seeing Gregs name the other day and it got me wondering how much of our recent success can he attributed to his involvement. He was certainly the chairman when the ball started rolling - but how key was he?

He was a good name to has as Chairman, put some money in, and cared.

I liked Greg.
Had a chat with him every so often and was always responsive and pleasant to talk too.
I agree. A couple of years after he became Chairman of BFC, he also became Chairman of the organisation I worked for. I used to call him "chairman of my life". He was completely unpretentious and engaging on a personal level, however high or low you were in the hierarchy. People I knew at LWT and the BBC said the same.

Was he instrumental in bringing Matthew to the club or was it happening anyway?. Or just a case of serendipity? (I.e. lucky)

As I understand it GD was never personally responsible for keeping the club afloat with his own cash but that he did put some money in (which was subsequently repaid) - is that correct?

I remember as a young teenager walking down Clifden road from Brentford station towards the ground with some friends before a game and bumping into him. He was very friendly and happy to chat to us.

I've heard similar. A mate of mine worked at the Beeb as a Studio manager and she said that when he stood down as DG, some people were crying on his last day. They absolutely loved him.

I met him on many occasions in the boardroom at GP. Along with his brother, Ian he was always happy to chat. In fact I walked along the road with him after the Leeds game. Let’s not forget that as chairman of the FA he said England would win the World Cup in 2022. Not long to wait now.
