Just managed to email a question to Greg Dyke who was on the Simon Mayo prgram today on radio 5
I asked "Since he was a local celebrity and a fan of Brentford Football Club had he considered investing his millions into the club aka Roman"

He replied that yes he had been a supporter since the 50's when his brother was on our junior books, and went a lot last season, hasnt been this season yet. The problem with investing into a club like Brentford, who are doing well in 5th place this season is that thy need the money to buy the ground from Noades and it isnt really an investment rather than a donation (not his exact wording)
However he didnt say no and did hesitate with the answer a little, I am sure he has been approached or even have discussions with the board. I think he is worth reminding what he could achieve by "giving a little money"

Anyone else here it and have any comments? :fishing:

I didn't hear it, but a former boss of mine worked with him at ITV and I understand that Dyke was quite keen on the idea of investing in BFC around the time he netted a nice bit of cash coming out of GMTV but was persuaded by his wife that it was not an investment and that he couldn't afford it (hence the Man U investment).

I don't see him ploughing much cash in but might be a useful friend for the club or someone who could help find investment or be brought in as a non-exec director.

It would be nice to think we could use his expertise. His skills somehow seem more relevant to those of our current board!!!

If he wanted to help financially, I'm sure he would have done so by now. I would imagine he is similar to most other investors in not wanting to line Ron Noades' pocket.

He wouldnt have to necessarily put his hand in pocket.As the above comment plus his commercial connections could do us no harm imho.Interesting comments Dangerous,I hope he doesnt read this thread though I know you were joking .Didnt feel like talking to me out side the pub Sat then ?

Appoligies Bigbee for that but I had my 2 neices with me and needed eyes in the back of my head to keep look after them 2 but will have a beer and chat when there older brothers are there at the next home game.

They are my Nephews Joel & Ellis and both season Ticket holders now but I had the other pain in the backsides on sat Cassidy and Shannon.

Dyke turned GMTV round by putting Roland Rat on every morning and driving the station relentlessly downmarket. Looks like a recipe for success at GP where we already have a few ready-made puppets in place.

To be honest I would be delighted to see him as a chief executive, and probably would not have to invest any personal money but he no doubt knows plenty of people with "spare" money.

But someone who knows his job like Greg would not be popular let alone approached by the present incumbents and I will let you say why

We dont need anything right now apart from a loan guarantor. No donations, nothing. Whatever the rights or the wrongs of BU and the way it manages the club and the bucket money, the key issue is guaranteeing the overdraft. Yes, it would be nice if someone could take over the debt servicing too, but right now we just need someone to take over when A/wood stop backing up the overdraft. Can Mr D raise such capital on a bond basis? What would be the cost?? But a donation, no: just a guarantee.

Long distance, I disagree since I have grave concerns about buying out the debt of the club that is still losing money. What we need are investors AND people who can generate further income within and outside of the football, I am not sure BU will be in a position to do both come May 2005
Didnt Noades guarantee the overdraft?

Fair point China, but I would rather have a friendly face guaranteeing the o/d rather than Ron Bloody Noades (ie., Altonwood). But certainly we also do need other sources of funding, I fully agree.

Greg Dkye sat behind me for the Bournemouth last game of the season.

Eavesdropping (as you do), he knew none of the players and I suspect had not been to many games over the last couple of years.

I suspect he just wants to publicly feed off being asoociated with such a top club.

However, if he want to put his hand in his pocket and help the club out. :(

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Lords Taverners Christmas Lunch, with Greg Dyke a guest speaker well apart from blasting the BBC Goveners and Tony Bliar, he claimed within his speech he had to make an apology in front of a crowd of at least 1000 people he was going to make it at Brentfords next home match but today came up (there were 1200 there).
I will read the signed copy of of his book with interest.
Apparently He went to Hayes Grammer in the late 40s
Brentford board go get this man he is supurb him General Manager and MA dream team here we go to the premier

Doubt very much that Altonwood would agree to Greg Dyke joining the Board, he'd have the balls to go for Noad€$ very publicly re our financial predicament and Noad€$ wouldn't like that. At present Noad€$ has got things as cushy as he possibly could.

Doubt whether the Board would allow Greg Dyke to become a Director, he may expose and act on any weaknesses he may find and the Board wouldn't want any Directors out of work would they !

So, can't see it happening - it would be nice but ............

I don't think that Brentford even gets a mention in his book. I was gonna buy it but Brentford FC is not indexed and I couldn't see anything on a quick flick through.His footy comments are all his directorship of Man United.

Totally agree see from my previous post 21st Sept

And you are right also abee Bees are not mentioned (so far) but a good read and he does not pull any punches and about his EXdirectorship of Man Ure

I was at Manchester Airport with nothing to do whilst waiting for my flight back to Kent and happened to see Greg Dykes autobiography. Funnily enough no mention of Brentford but several of Manchester United, including how delighted Martin Edwards was when he found out Greig was a Manu fan, in some way conected to the TV deal for the premiership. I hope when I make my millions I am still able to say "come on you bees"

He states Bill Dodgin senior tried to get his elder Brother Ian to sign for the Bees and he indeed played for the Juniors,
and Quote weve all had affection for the club although they were never first choice for any of us
