Im not having a dig im generally intrigued in what he actually does at the club?
does he invest any money at all? if not why not isnt that what a chairman is meant to do?

Greg Dyke

he is groundsman mate.

:grey:

Hasn't the argument always been that saying that Greg Dyke of Brentford would like to speak to you sounds better than, lets see, Keith Dickens wouldn't mind a bit of your time please?
It sort of makes sense.
I hope he/they can weed out who was in charge of the Turner Prize fiasco.

Can you list the things that he is "meant to do"?

does he bring in any revenue? if he was a somewhere like newcastle he would last bout 30 seconds!

A chairman of a normal company doesn't put any money in, although they may well have shares in the company. Most are there as figureheads, to attract more business, not all have the final word on the companies direction.

Greg has put some money in (about 150k??) and guarantees other sums, in case we need it.

I think he's perfect for us, a big figure, a true supporter and not a rapist.
We have our sugar daddy in Matthew Benham, thank feck.

A football club should stand on its own two feet. Although Greg Dyke has put into the pot, he made it clear from day one that he would not be funding the club and why should he? Many of our own supporters did not want to throw money into a big blxck hole.

Greg Dyke

So you'd rather have a egomaniac as a chairman then?

not at all really but like it says it better to have his name, but yeh would be good to be out in the press a bit more can only help the club!

I think it should be borne in mind that ( as far as I am aware) Greg, and his board colleagues undertake their Brentford duties without payment of any kind.
Bearing in mind that he is the sort of guy who could command big 'after dinner speaking' fees, and consultancy fees etc etc, his time spent working for the club is effectively costing him money, plus he is losing out on interest that he could have earned if he had deposited his money elsewhere.
Whilst, I dare say, there are some 'perks' of the job, he is often the guy who has to face the vent of fans if things go badly. I recall him bravely facing up to fans when there were demonstrations in the forecourt at the end of Leroy's reign, and then enduring even worse fury when Terry Butcher's management went pear-shaped.
I dare say, also, he has been useful regarding contacts etc, and acting as a 'go between' and he undoubtedly helps raise the club's profile.
I will leave it to others to describe in more detail just what he does for the club, but I just think we should take the above points into consideration.

I think you'll find that's what iffy billionaire chairmen 'do'. If you'd like us to go down the road of some of our west London neighbours and have a despot picking the team and appointing a new manager after three consecutive games without a win then fair enough. I personally, am reasonably happy with the way our club is being run.

Greg Dyke

It's handy having a 'figurehead' chairman who is media trained. We often turn to Greg at BBC London for a quote re the club and he's always good fun.

greg is great, leave him alone*. he is brentford. he is famous. and he is a top executive

*unless it is he who messed up the Turner sell on

agree. and, as chairman, he can take some of the heat off matthew when he takes over.

we are very very lucky to have greg as our chairman. as were the bbc when he was ceo. and london weekend tv before the beeb.

top man. a class act.

Can't understand what you expect him to do or be for Bfc that he doesn't already do. He has previously ensured our club has received publicity via various sources and he is a known supporter of our club and your having a go at him just doesn't make any sense.

hes a man utd supporter,

Greg Dyke

hes a man utd supporter,

If you've ever seen him at at a game you would know that he and some very glam of his mates are honestly, BFC forever, yes, he was a Man U shareholder. now given up for Brentford FC.
In my mind that makes him a top bloke, his kids went to state school in Nam, he's a local chap, what more can you ask?

:)....................you mean he's a tightwad who not only would not bail out BFC (or whatever it was he is deemed to have said), but wouldn't put his hands in his pockets to give his kids a half-decent education?...............:fishing:

Greg Dyke

As one of the aforementioned kids can I point out that he had no say in where we went to school, and if anybody had thought about sending us to anything other than the local state school, my mother would have shot them. Greg included.

P.S. Did you know that his brother played for Brentford youth, but when the manager wanted to sign him up for the full squad his dad wouldn't let him because there was no money in football...

Definitely a bee. I was in the executive boxes at Bournmouth away last year, and when we scored he surged forward, jumped over Bee H's shoulder and went over four rows of seats going proper mental.

I was sitting next to Bee H and the truth is that Greg had just been stung by a wasp.
