Young defender Greg Halford broke into Colchester's first team midway through last season, and had won a number of admirers by the end of the campaign.

The 19-year-old has become a regular at right back, but is comfortable on the ball and delivers an accurate cross.

His height also makes him a constant danger at set pieces for the U's.

In Phil Parkinson, Colchester have one of the more promising young managers in the lower divisions, and Halford should blossom under his tutelage this year.

it'd be pointless to bid for him, because we couldn't afford him and they wouldn't sell him. he stood out for me at GP, big No 2 who played right-wing before coming into the centre. had white boots on (i.e he's a bit of a c*nt), but deserved to wear them, cos he looked alright. but :shrug:

Having an ex-work colleague who follows the U's & ironically worked in Brentford he was telling me this kid was destined for better things the minute he replaced I believe Andy Myers for them.

He can play anywhere, has skill, height & a bit of pace. He should eventually get a chance higher up the leagues.

I think he played in four different positions at our place, played well even though he set himself up for a fall in wearing white boots !

I'd pin Colchester squarely in the 'over-performed' box too - as with Southend too - if looking at pre-season prospects.

Placing my rose-tinted glasses on - we should be good to go, if Lloyd starts to pick it up then on the goal-scoring front anyways.

No he's right, we are a good little side. We're the good little side who's going to get automatic promotion along with the swans whilst colchester slump to 12th after a pitiful end to their season.

Have we overperformed? I can't agree. We have spent all of this season in the top four and a large part of last season in the play offs. In League 1, most teams are much of a muchness, but I believe that when we play to our capabilities we are the best side in the division and we proved that against Swansea. However, we have off days and I recall two major ones this season; Colchester and Bournemouth.

Lloyd hasn't produced the goals but he has improved the side as we are far more difficult to defend against. The evidence of the "goals for" column proves this. I'd like more goals but Lloyd has done ok this season and is still improving. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw a run of scoring sometime soon.

We're where we are on merit and I believe that addition of Pratley, Rhodes and possibly Oli in the forthcoming weeks means that we can kick on and win this division.

If our home form matched our away we'd be well clear at the top by now.We need Newman to perform consistantly .When the injured return it will be a real boost ,but I guess all teams are carrying injuries,it may be that out squad is smaller than others though .This is a weak division this year with few points between many clubs.We have the chance to pull clear in the next week or to spunk it up completely

Overperformed????

That has surprised me. I think a team that has spent a majority of the last 30 - 40 games in the top four in the division can hardly be accused of over performing. It is my opinion that we would have been clear at the top by about 9 points had we actually had a full fit squad to choose from at any point this season. DJ has given defences an absolute nightmare with his pace and had Rhodes been there to scare them too......

Everyone has played their part and when (and if) we can get our full team fit then i think everyone should watch out. We are where we are on merit and for a little better luck in certain games this season Huddersfield away, Col U at home (even though we were 5hit)Bradford away we could easily be 3 points clear with 2 games in hand as it is a win on Sat will do us very nicely thank you. Onwards and Upwards and heres to over-achieving
