Gretna

Gretna

Reason:
Carlisle millionaire businessman Brooks Mileson has ploughed money into the club to allow manager Rowan Alexander to build the team for their success this season.

There you go then, that's that one done

Gretna

Pretty amazing feat to win promotion as early as March 5. I wonder if it's been done before?

Peterhead aren't doing too badly in that division either, are they?

Gretna

Notts County won promotion at Easter 4 or 5 seasons back. not sure that was the record though..

Gretna's great feat was accomplished in front of a huge crowd 0f 339 at Cowdenbeath. I understand that both Gretna fans were at the game.

This massive turnout eclipsed the 307 at Albion Rovers who saw their team lose to Montrose 1-2.

It's funny what money can buy ain't it?

What is wrong with Gretna then

Sorry weymouth, not quite sure how to put this, but let me try.

Gretna came into the Scottish league in 2003. Good for them I thought at the time.

But let me explain.

Gretna's fortunes are not through the talent of a good manager, or through the shear determination of a group of small time, but great players. They are in there current position because a very rich fella bought them.

Not a big deal you might say, happens all the time after all. But let me ask you do you agree with Mr Ambromovich's Chelsea? I don't.

Gretna where third division champions last year, have already won the second division this year, and will no doubt go on to win the first division next year. Placing them in the SPL. Great advert for footie

They have an average home fan base of 300.

And every time a lower division team trys to buy a decent player, who pops up and snaps them away?

It is possible that I would have a different point of view if a sugar daddy bought Thistle, but at least my club could supply a few thousand fans, some history and a stadium for the over payed players to play in. ;)

I think they did exactly the same last season when winning div. 3

Chelsea, Wigan, Gretna, Reading and the like are only the result of the way the authorities have allowed financial wealth to become the only criterion for success in the sport. Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool have been setting the standards for financial dominance of football talent. The football authorities and the media have done absolutely nothing about it. As a result the only way for a club to prosper today is to buy talent and the only way to survive is by selling talent which is why we don't have DJ Campbell.

To single out Gretna or Chelsea is futile and myopic. They are just the lucky ones who found a benefactor. For the record, I am happier to see these new names. At least it is a change from the same old same old Manchester United whose fans are in depression because they have only won the Carling Cup this year and have to tolerate another season in the wealth-creating European contests. I would love to see Gretna unseat Celtic and Rangers.

Despite having wealthy owners I don't think you can put either Wigan or Reading's current success down to outright buying power. It's more a case of having an excellent manager in place, who has bought shrewdly and wisely.

Good points but without the cash they could have bought nothing and certainly wouldn't have bought a big new stadium

Madjetski's 100 million notes may have helped a little in Reading's case?

(i)What is a massive team? (ii)Huge support means huge revenue means you get more money than the other clubs means you can buy the best players means you form a financial monopoly and win everything and eliminate competitiveness from the game of football

"myopic" is not a big word, it is a short word meaning "shortsightedness" which is a bigger word. "futile" means "producing no result or effect". Don't forget to wear a condom with those Scottish Blackface and Northern Cheviots. lol ;) :D
