GTech First Timer

My lovely fella has bought me tickets for the Aston Villa game. It will be my first trip to the GTech- very excited!- but we're not local so we'll be staying overnight. Just wondering if anyone can give recommendations for local hotels, places to eat, anything else worth visiting in the area etc?

Much appreciated!! See you in March!

Travelodge Kew Bridge Road just up the road from Gtech is a good place to stay.
Right by the river.
Kew Gardens is always worth a visit and you can get a train into Waterloo or the tube into the West End.
What to see ?
Where to start ?
How long you stopping for ?

Welcome. Kew Gardens is the obvious, and easy, choice for visitors looking for something else to do nearby - it's just a 15 minute stroll from the ground across Kew Bridge. Syon House is also very local. There is a Water and Steam Museum next to the ground but I've never actually been inside so have no idea if it's worth a look.

If you like water and steam its the dogs bo//ox.
If just popping the kettle on is your thing then leave it.

For the full Bees experience, a pre-match visit to Kew Cricket Club is a must.....

Are tickets in the Villa end sold out already?

We'll just be coming overnight. We live in Manchester so it's a lot of travelling to do there n back in a day so thought we'd make a weekend of it.

I could have made that clearer! I'm a bees supporter but I live in Manchester so this is my first trip down.

I've only been able to see an away game until now (at the Etihad in 2022 but I was undercover in the home section, a customer of mine works for City so got me free tickets. And no, it wasn't the win!)

And really important point too make.

If your also a fella I would encourage you to bring your own hand sanitizer for the toliets and to ensure if you touch any surface handrails etc… Otherwise things could get messy later..

For the female fans the toliets aren’t as plentiful but slightly cleaner however the same rules apply to hand cleanliness.

If the weather is nice and you have time during the day, I've always liked the walk from Kew to Richmond along the river. If the tide is low there are a few places you can go down to the bank, too, if that's your thing. Richmond in general is really nice, too; and you can just get the District line/Overground back to Kew Gardens or Gunnersbury, then walk back up to the stadium when you're done.

Kew Gardens is obviously lovely, and there's Richmond Park too if you don't mind going a bit further afield. Cycling to/from Richmond Park to the stadium is quite straightforward as well, if you're willing to hire a bike, although IMO it's a bit pricey.

...there's obviously also the entirety of London for sightseeing if that's something that's an attractive prospect.

I suggest you remortgage you house so you can buy beers without fear of not being able to afford to eat for a few months

There’s a section of the towpath currently close with a diversion up to Kew Road but it’s still a good walk to make into Richmond and you can get a bus back, or vice-versa.

Oh I had no idea! Thanks for pointing this out.

If staying for weekend I recommend this hotel

Its 15 minutes walk from gtech and just a short walk from gunnersbury underground for Richmond or into London.

I stayed there once for a game and enjoyed it. You can park there but its £20 for 24 hours.

Villa could be in Champions league last 16 action in the week preceding our game and the week after.
Hopefully we can give some of theirs a few late ones or they rest a few.

Won’t get that in the underground car park at the Coach and Horses
There’s a ground-level car park at the back…

No trip to Brentford is complete without a slow wander down scenic Hounslow high street and a stop at the treaty centre to sample some of the many local delicacies. Round it off with a souvenir from one of the many homewares stores and if you fancy a flutter, Mekur Slots or Admiral Casino will give you that Vegas feel. Later, experience the excitement of the beginning of an international voyage by hopping on the 237 from london’s premier terminus, Hounslow Bus Garage and enjoy the rich tapestry of life and roadworks as you take in scenic Lampton and Spring Grove.

I will be a GTECH virgin when I and my son, daughter and 7 years old grandson attend the match against Spurs on 2nd February. We all live near Glasgow and I have been a Brentford fan since the age of 11. I will be 80 on 29th January and my whole family have been plotting this special trip since September without letting on to me until they told me at the dinner table on Christmas Day. I was so surprised and can’t thank them enough.
I left London when I was 26 and was a big fan of Brentford and went to almost every game at Griffin Park up until then. I only came to Glasgow on a short term secondment with my job but elected to stay having met my wife-to-be just before I was due to return to London. I have been here ever since and have never regretted it but have really missed going to Brentford games. It is not easy to do so living near Glasgow which is why going to the match at the GTECH will be so special. My love for Brentford has never diminished and I watch almost every game on TV but to actually get to see them play live will be so amazing.
We will hopefully celebrate a victory after the game and will meet up with some friends and other family members.
After that my wife and I will stay for a couple more days and I hope to get to some of my old stamping grounds.
I am looking forward to the whole visit but the special part will be the visit to the GTECH and to see the boys in the flesh.

I hope you all have a great day out when you visit.

I don’t have any connections with the BFC fan liaison team at the club, but I’m sure it’s worth you, or someone in your party letting them know about your special visit in the hope that you can get some ‘extra’ treatment to make it as much a memorable occasion as it can be, especially if it’s also a special day for your grandson, too.

I am sure you will have a great time. I went to my first game there against Ipswich this season and it was everything I hoped it would be.
