GTech First Timer

I hope you all have a great day out when you visit.

I don’t have any connections with the BFC fan liaison team at the club, but I’m sure it’s worth you, or someone in your party letting them know about your special visit in the hope that you can get some ‘extra’ treatment to make it as much a memorable occasion as it can be, especially if it’s also a special day for your grandson, too.
Thanks for that Beelated.
I had already been in touch with the BFC fan liaison team to ask if my grandson (Jack) could be a mascot at the game but they were not able to allow it. The problem is that a mascot must be a junior season ticket holder and there is also a waiting list. Since Jack is only 7 and lives in Glasgow he is not a season ticket holder.
Not to worry however, we will still have a great day - especially if Brentford win the game.
By the way, mine is a complimentary ticket kindly given to me by the club for which I am very grateful.

I will be a GTECH virgin when I and my son, daughter and 7 years old grandson attend the match against Spurs on 2nd February. We all live near Glasgow and I have been a Brentford fan since the age of 11. I will be 80 on 29th January and my whole family have been plotting this special trip since September without letting on to me until they told me at the dinner table on Christmas Day. I was so surprised and can’t thank them enough.
I left London when I was 26 and was a big fan of Brentford and went to almost every game at Griffin Park up until then. I only came to Glasgow on a short term secondment with my job but elected to stay having met my wife-to-be just before I was due to return to London. I have been here ever since and have never regretted it but have really missed going to Brentford games. It is not easy to do so living near Glasgow which is why going to the match at the GTECH will be so special. My love for Brentford has never diminished and I watch almost every game on TV but to actually get to see them play live will be so amazing.
We will hopefully celebrate a victory after the game and will meet up with some friends and other family members.
After that my wife and I will stay for a couple more days and I hope to get to some of my old stamping grounds.
I am looking forward to the whole visit but the special part will be the visit to the GTECH and to see the boys in the flesh.

❤️ This is so lovely!

This will be my first time ever meeting any other Brentford fans IRL ?

I met my bf in 2021 and at the time I only really watched women's football and he only really watched men's football. When we started following each other's leagues I didn't want to follow him as a Liverpool fan (my Gran would be heartbroken) and didn't want to support City's men's team (all my family are Man Utd fans, I was born, raised and still live walking distance from Old Trafford. They were all disappointed when I started following City women but it was tough coz at that time, Utd didn't have a women's team)

So at the start of the 2021 season I had a decision to make and I figured given I was new to the PL I may as well pick a team who also was (I love a good underdog story) Great results against Liverpool that season (???? in your face my lovely bf!) cemented my love.

I have seen the bees ? at The Etihad as one of my customers works there and was able to get me tickets for an away game but we were sat amongst the City fans (tbf, mostly kids groups) so I couldn't really shout n cheer as I'd have liked! ?

Really looking forward to the atmosphere n hoping for a good result ? COYB ?

You will have a great time and you will want to come back again and again and etc etc.
For many of us its a ritual and very difficult to describe what we witness every game.
Trust me when i say its very very good.

Fingers crossed that our team can do to Spurs what Everton did earlier today.

I can’t wait to be at the GTECH to see the game in person since I only get to see them on TV given I live near Glasgow. I have many memories of watching them at Griffin Park from 1956 to 1972 but the standard of football was nowhere near the standard of today - even though we had some pretty good players from time to time.
I am so proud of Brentford and often tell the story of how they survived several potentially existential moments in the past like QPR’s attempt to takeover Brentford over 50 years ago (the supporters pertitioned to prevent it). More recently, around 15 years ago, the club’s owner at the time seemed intent on milking the club dry and almost forced the club into extinction but the fans again came to the rescue and raised money to help in the fight to save the club. They also approached Mathew Bentham to invest money into the club and to become owner.
Since then it has been onward and upward - we made it to the top division and built a new stadium which I never thought I would see. Prior to Brentford being promoted to the Premier League (PL) I had never seen them play in any league other than the bottom two leagues. I thought we were always the poor relations - a small fish in a big pond - but now we are not so small and can give most teams in the PL a good game. In fact we have beaten every other PL team that we have played in our three and a half years as a PL team.

Brentford have not won many trophies in the past but one thing they have achieved is being the only club on the entire Football League to have won all of it’s league games in a season (1929/30).

Just a little bit of history of the club and a reason to be proud of where they are now.

You should see it under the lights next.

I should have said that Brentford won all of their home league matches in 1929/30 season.
Bit of trivia for you.
Which club won its first 20 home league games and drew its 21st ?
Not a trick question, but its the closest anyone has come to equalling that achievment.

Preston?

I wish I could but don’t think there is much chance of that.
Getting to the GTECH at any time is a major exercise for me since I am 80 and live in East Kilbride near Glasgow.

I was at East Kilbride golf club back in December, sadly for a funeral wake and not for a round of golf.

Looked a nice part of the world as far as I could tell.

I hope you do manage to get back to the GTEC at some point in future and hopefully see us win!

I remembered ‘wall going unbeaten for 60odd
home games once, in the days of Harry Cripps (if ever there was an aptly named defender!)
Two and a half years that run and it was 59 games.1964/65 & 65/66 & Plymouth Argyle won 2-1 in January 67.
43 wins 16 draws

I also was at a funeral wake at EK GOLF CLUB on 5th Feb having been at the funeral at South Lanarkshire crematorium.
Happening all too often these days!
Only just got back the day before from my weekend in London after my visit to the GTECH.
