Hanwell Town

Hanwell Town gained about 8000 extra Twitter isers yesterday and are now followed by 13K.

The rise has come through Newcastle United fans who have discovered that the club was formed by Newcastle supporters working on the railways in London, that they wear Black and White Stripes and are nicknamed the Geordies.

There is talk of a take over game later this year when Newcastle are away to Westham with fans wanting to attend both matches. (Hanwell are away to Chalfont when we host the Mags)

Up to 14k now.

I really enjoyed my visit to Hanwell Town in the Middlesex cup last season. The whole place is so friendly. It was a bit of a nostalga trip being able to take your half time pint outside to watch the second half.

Which is interesting as I was leading through a copy of the Ealing gazette the other week from 1988 and Hanwell were appealing for people to come forward to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

I believe the club reformed but cant see any mention of this in thier Wiki page which states they were formed in 1920.

Promoted! Congrats to Chris Moore and Sammy Saunders
Sam Saunders didn't turn up ! Eventful game. Hanwell score first. Chertsey equalised in the last minute taking the game to extra time. Chertsey go ahead 2-1. Hanwell equalise 2-2 and go to celebrate with their supporters. The weight of supporters toppled the pitch side wall and the game suspended. Hopefully no one was injured. Then Hanwell win it 3-2.

Good job voice is in Manchester ?

What League do they get promoted to?
Isthmian or Southern?

Brilliant! One of the very few advantages of EPL fixtures getting moved is allowing me to visit local sides like Hanwell Town on Saturdays. Nice bar, tidy ground, and walking distance.

It was Sams daughter baptism.

They deserved it battered the 90 mins then let in a late one. Showed courage to come back from behind with 10 men.

Yes I forgot to mention Hanwell had a player sent off.

Nearest station South Greenford
Greenford is massive and has some of the worst urban planning in the city.

South Greenford station isn’t even in South Greenford, it’s in Perivale, East Greenford. South Greenford’s nearest station is Castle Bar Park in Ealing.

Perivale Station on the Central Line is a short walk away.

20 minute walk from Gurnell, even then I am envious. My parent’s house was a 35 minute walk from the nearest station, used to be a myth taking trains, had to buy a bike.

I was born in Perivale Maternity Hospital which was across the Road from Hanwell's ground. My birth certificate shows "Greenford" as my place of birth although I always put "Perivale, Middlesex" when asked.

Was that where the PRA is now ? Or where Gurnell is now ?

Good start to the season.

Lost opening day game to Truro, who are unbeaten, but have won their last four games, and lie third.

I do exactly the same, also born in Perivale Maternity went to Cuckoo/Brentside schools and lived in the Hanwell area bar a few years in the Alperton area now in Dormers Wells Southall.

The attendance was almost 300 on Saturday which is 6 times more than they were getting a few years ago.

Lots of Newcastle fans are now wearing Hanwell shirts at St James Park and their supporters played against the London Mags on Saturday.

The Dodo micro brewary in Hanwell had a pop up bar at the game too

Bordeston, there’s a blast from the past! My brother went there but I think he spent more time in the Royal than the school! It had changed to Elthorne by the time I got there.
Nothing better than sitting in the garden of the Royal on a summer evening. Did that hundreds of times.

Beat Dorchester 2-1 to go 5th in the Isthmian South Division.

There was a BBC documentary about Bordeston, back in the 70's, very controversial at the time, not sure if it has been mentioned on here, I'm sure someone will tell me that it has.

We went to Walpole which also got absorbed into Elthorne but well after my time. The Royal was also our pub of choice particularly for a big meet up every Friday night which went on several years even after we had all left school.

Bordeston was a school full of loons, was near Northfields. Got closed down and merged in to Elthorne and eventually everyone was based at Elthorne in Hanwell. The Royal was my local!!

I thought Bordeston was renamed Elthorne (perhaps after a closure, but re-opened on the same site)?
