I know many of the present Bees fans never had the chance to see him but Lawton had a rocket shot too. He once broke the then wooden crossbar with a warm-up shot in a game against Swansea.

Johnny Brookes, John Dick and Jimmy McNichol had rocket shots but I think Evo gives them a run for their money.

Jim McNicol is Hot Shot Hamish from Roy of the Rovers.

We were singing "Jimmy" long after he left whenever we got a freekick anywhere central in our opponents half!

I'd also go for Jim McNichol, but an honourable mention to Danis Salman. I don't remember him scoring many goals - but this is about force rather than accuracy right?

McNichol without a doubt. A free kick 20/25 yards out? He didn't need to curl it. People with sense got out the way!
Sad that there was a period, I think under Callaghan, where 'his face did not fit'.

he scored a free kick from about 45 yards in an away game. Anywhere in the half and we all went, jim jim.
I must admit evo isn't too far behind but doesn't score enough of his (evo is a better crosser and curls a better free kick) but jim looked like scoring every one.

Can't remember the bloke's name but I was at a York City - Reading game some years ago when a Reading player stopped the hardest shot I've ever seen with his wedding tackle. Suffice to say he played no further part in the game, or probably in the propagation of the human race. Ever seen someone turning a lump of gold into gold leaf? That's what happened to his nads.

Jim Towers. In his day the footballs were far different from the light type of footballs used nowadays and a wise defender made sure that he kept out of the way when Jim sent in his pile-drivers!

Jim Towers without doubt.

Trouble is they were always hard but they weren't always accurate - I remember him putting the ball over the Brook Road stand from 3 yards!

Ray Reeves was signed from Reading 'cos he scored against us gfrom inside his own half and he had a hard shot. His problem was his hard shgot was down to the fact that he weighed about 26 stone; not a lot of god for a full back marking a fast and tricky winger!!

I have to go along with the majority and say Jim McNicol for me. This really brings back childhood memories everytime we got a free kick in the opponents half. The chants fromthe crowd for him to take it would ring round the ground and I can remember the opposition visibily worrying cos of the crowd reaction. The netbusters he produced are the things that all child hood memories are made of - whats he doing now since that dog wrapped itself round his legs at Torquay, would be great to see him back at the club.
