Hat-Tricks

Great stuff, Paul!
However, I've had it fixed in my mind for nearly fifty years that Brian Bedford's hat trick (evening match and all three at RO end) was against Newport Co.
Shoot me down!:)

Hat-Tricks

John Docherty's against Darlington, and was it him or Paul Bence that fed John O' Mara with the final pass of a multi man move, ending in that spectacular volleyed goal at the Ealing Road end. Almost unforgettable memories!!

It was Paul Bence, brilliant goal.

If you can read an xls spreadsheet on your pc or ipad or iphone etc etc then this may jog your memories!. :)

The attached file is a list of Hat-Tricks scored by Brentford players, season by season. :sorted:

If there are any errors, please let me know. ;)

I've also added a list of the number each player has scored at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

I make it 108 Hat-Tricks in all competitions as a Football League Club - including FA, FL and other Cups. :)

96 Hat-Tricks in the Football League to date - unless I've made an error?! :grey:

Great stuff.

What about his one in the 6-4 win against York City early 70's IIRC. We were coasting at 5-1 with about ten minutes left and they pulled it back to 5-4 and pressing for 5-5 when we broke away and the Doc cut in side and smashed in the sixth.

Hat-Tricks

Didn't Billy Cobb get a couple for us late sixties ? Great little striker he was.

Versus QPR and Carlisle in 1964/65..... ;)

They're on the list - sounding like Nick Knowles on that lottery quiz show!!! :D

Hat-Tricks

Thanks very much for clarifying that; seem to remember a brilliant John Docherty goal at the Ealing Road end, from the most acute angle I have ever seen. How I wish that there were videos then!

The benefit of no video evidence is that simple tap-ins can become world class goals in your own memory - and there's nothing to disprove it!!

Deffo Exeter with John Smout - great name - in goal

Paul Williams? Why can't I recall him? Help!

Wonderful sharp young striker on loan from Charlton who looked set to sign for us but Perryman made a cardinal error of picking him in a meaningless Football League Trophy match v Notts County where he was stupid enough to score a hat trick and Charlton refused to sell him to us.

Perryman later revealed that Frank McLintock had been on the verge of signing Williams when he was sacked as Brentford manager.

Hat-Tricks

Brian Bedford's was the first I ever saw but Andy Woon's was the one I will always remember. For the first, Roger Cross hooked a centre over from the Braemar side and it went as high as the Royal Oak roof and nobody challenged Woon who had a free header. A magic day in an otherwise awful season.

Brings back pain for me - I think the only home league game I missed in about 6 years, and it ended 6-4

Midweek game I believe. I was working after school in Safeways in Ealing Broadway and just got to GP in time for this one. Mad game.

Hat-Tricks

It was a Monday night game - remember when we used to play home midweeks on Mondays?

Played Mondays when i started going in late 70s and early 80s iirc......was 'famous' Sheff Utd home game a Monday??………

I can't believe Rowan Alexander ever scored a hat-trick. I certainly don't remember it!

***EDIT*** One error..... Jack Lane missing from the list of players..... :(

95 in the league unless you're counting the one from the abandoned game?

Hat-Tricks

Ronaldo got his 34th for Real last night

Hat-Tricks

A couple more to add to the list that I believe have been missed off:

1945/46 v Bristol City FAC 31.1.1946 Gerry McAloon
1968/69 v York City Division Four 21.09.68 Pat Terry

Hat-Tricks

Good spot. :sorted:

Forgot about FA Cup in 1945/46. :)

Will update and repost the file. :grey:

Hat-Tricks

Pat Terry apparently had an upset tummy before the York game and needed to take some medicine beforehand so that he was fit enough to play!!!!

Off topic but anyone know our 'Vardy' equivalent record ?

Fred Monk. 10 consecutive matches, scoring 11 goals. From 3 February 1951 to 31 March 1951. :)

Hat-Tricks

Off topic but anyone know our 'Vardy' equivalent record ?

Vardy didn't even equal the record as there was a Sheffield Utd player who scored for 12 consecutive games in the top flight.

The top division has been around longer than 20 years, believe it or not

Hat-Tricks

Dai Ward I seem to remember - one an overhead kick, but don't remember the opposing side?

I think it was because the reserves played on Wednesday's in the midweek league.

I think we switched to Mondays well before the reserve team was re-established. My recollection is that the reason was to avoid potential home fixture clashes with Fulham or QPR. We would always be paired with one of those two teams for a home match on a Tuesday evening. So we switched to Monday.

Not surprising that there hasn't been one in the League Cup.

Our record in that competition is dreadful.

Hat-Tricks

That's the one!!!! Was there on my own as a 13 year old on NR terrace......crackling atmosphere that night.....rarely witnessed since.....

Crackling?????

The old girl was on fire that night.

.....................................I thought that I could remember Pat Terry getting a hat-trick, although for some reason, I thought it was against Gillingham................................

Hat-Tricks

One was in a 3- 1 away at Hudders. That was a scary day!

Yes. Coach window put through after game. All the way back to Stockport station was freezing!
Superb conga through the train on way back to Euston. Stoke fans (think they'd been to Manure) went very quiet quickly!

Settle a philosophical argument for us, please. Is it more commendable to score a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory or a 3-2 victory against the same side? This one isn't as simple as it seems, according to the debate here.

Hat-Tricks

Has anyone come even remotely close to it since?

The nearest any player has got since then is 6 consecutive matches, that I can find.

F Joseph - Aug 27-Sep 14
J Allon - Oct 16-Nov 6
