Culture shock

I was near Hinckley on business today,so I though I would go and have a look at the ground. To say it is a dump is a complete understatement, the pitch looks like a Sunday League pitch. You have been warned.
The best way to find the ground by car is to leave the M1 at the first junction after the M6 turn off(Lutterworth) turn left follow the signs for Magna Park then after about 4-5 miles you will come to a roundabout with Magna Park on your right and the A5 going from left to right, turn right Hinkley is sign posted at this point carry along the A5.After about 8-9 miles you will come to a large roundabout with the M69 going over it take the A5 turn off heading towards towards Tamworth (don't take the town centre exit) until you see McDonalds on your right on a retail park and we should be able to park around there.

Be careful on the A5 as the Police have always got speed traps on it.

Re: Culture shock

They're moving to a 4,000 capacity stadium on Boxing Day. It looks very nice for a non-league ground, and could with ease become a league standard stadium if ever needed. It's a massive complex with lots of pitches and so on, the name DeMontfort was mentioned, suggests it is something to do with that university.

Probably why their current ground looks basic to say the least.

Re: Culture shock

Shouldnt matter to much as its only going to be 90 minutes of football for the selected few hundred bees that will be in the away end.Wont be Playing them again so i wouldnt worry to much about it. ;)

Hinckley - Bees: Radio Five Live

Not as relevant as it would normally be, due to the TV coverage, but according to Hinckley Radio Five Live have commentary on Sundays game, generating a further £9000.

Not sure whether both teams get that money, whether it's split etc  Not a significant amount compared to the TV money we are pulling in but every little bit helps

Do we get a fee for that, I wonder?

TheFA site refers to FiveLive, presumably radio broadcast only...

I know it's boring and you're desperate to know. The Stadium is Sponsored by Marston's and will be known as the, erm, Marston's Stadium. The unofficial fans name for it though is the De Montfort Stadium. Not because of the Uni' but because the Hinckley badge is the banner of Honour of Hinckley, carried by Simon De Montford, Earl of Leicesterc.1209-1265.

Hinckly play in red and blue stripes.

FA Cup 2nd Round, away to a non-league side, featured on MOTD, in the amber kit......hmmmmm sounds familiar.

BBC coverage

 Have my eyes deceived me, or are the TV listings correct? Are the BBC only showing half tomorrow's match?!

Re: BBC coverage

It could only happen to Brentford! And in the TV mag from today's paper, they even have it as Hinckley v Bristol City or Brentford!! Do they really print these mags at least 9 days in advance??

Apparently we're not big enough to shift Eastenders although Thurrock v Oldham in the 1st Rd was!

Whatever.

Don't worry - being sandwiched by EastEnders will increase the number of people who see the Super Bees! :) :hat:
But probably only the second half, by which time the game will be wrapped up and we'll be taking it easy :) :) :)

Re: BBC coverage

I went mental when I looked at the TV listings this morning and thought it was only 2nd half coverage, then it was pointed out to me that the first half was on BBC2....phew!
BBC...what the hell is all that about.

Have you just seen the match preview on Football Focus? sh*te - I do not like the look of that pitch. I'm getting more and nervous - I'll have no nails left at this rate!

Re: BBC coverage

Yes just saw footy focus. That pitch looks shocking. However I did enjoy being referred to as "them", "the big club", "all the pressure is on them". Makes a pleasant change!

Yep & the way Lawro & Co. reckon our game is the most likely upset with the state of the pitch...

It was nice to hear us described as "the big club" though lol

Anyhoo... we'll walk it 0-4 to the Mighty Bees :sorted:

Re: BBC coverage

I was just going to post the same reaction, Swinedonbee. Was there a blade of grass in sight? Was MA able to find a park pitch as bad as that for the lads to practice on? I sincerely hope so. Its a bog. Plus all three pundits - Schmeichel, Lawrenson and Peacock reckoned Bees were the likeliest giantkilling victims. Nah, MA will have it worked out.....won't he?

Not so sure about that - we are crap at long ball football and that is the only kind of football that anyone will be able to play on that pitch!!

A Year ago, nigh on today ..

I remember being at Telford ;-(
I was so disgusted with our woeful performance that I smahed my beloved cigarette case against a stantion behind the goal.
I'd driven to Leeds to see my new Grandson (all of 15 minutes worth !) left my Mrs and son behind in Leeds and gawn back down to Telford.
After the game, drove back upto Leeds, picked sibling and Mrs up and drove back down to East Grinstead. 755 miles later, I wasn't a happy bunny.

PLEASE, this can't happen again tomorrow can it ?!

My Mrs has gawn up to Leeds today to celebrate the grandsons 1st birthday (I can't get out of work), so I won't have to drive so many miles tomorrow to see the Bees play.

Fingers crossed we get a result tomorrow.

I'll see the grandson again at Xmas time

Re: A Year ago, nigh on today ..

It was horrible wasn't it? Better than one list member's day - an attempt was made to smash his beloved head in afterwards!

Reasons to be cheerful:

Then: Walter Downes
Now: Martin Allen

They'll not dare put in a performance like that again!

Re: A Year ago, nigh on today ..

I do hope you're right *worry* a bit of me thinks that the Matt Somners and Jay Smiths of this world might fare a bit better on the trashed Hinckley pitch than Messers Salako or Rankin...

Re: A Year ago, nigh on today ..

I'll be more than happy with a draw tomorrow.
We'll do 'em, then at our place, in the knowledge we've got Chelsea in the next round (Remembers Oldham ! from a few years back !!)

That would mean the supporters versus Bees 1st team game scheduled for the 13th of December would have to be put back even further and give me even more time to get fit (Can see me smoking 20 fags in 90 minutes tomorrow !)
