Hughie McLaughlin.

First Brentford player to come on as a substitute. October 23rd 1965 in the 0-0 game against Oldham Athletic. He had played the previous 51 consecutive reserve Combination games, going back to April 1964 and it was the first time he had been nominated as a substitute.

I think it was the first and maybe the last time he was named as substitute too. There was another Scottish reserve wing half called Willie Smith who competed with him

If Hickey makes his debut off the bench then at that moment the same family/bloodline will have had the first ever and last ever player to come on as a sub for Brentford? Several decades apart?

Depends how big a family Mrs Hickey comes from. Given Aaron’s Celtic past he may be from a Catholic family and the gap between 1943 and 1966-ish is certainly in range for his mum to be Uncle Hughie’s baby sister. It’s a smaller gap than my dad had with his three eldest brothers. One for Stuart to ask in his first big interview.

I remember Hughie McLaughlin. Saw him play several times around 1963 ish.
Wing half I think. Useful squad player.
