Ian Pratt RIP

Got some sad news at yesterdays game - Ian Pratt had died on Friday.

I didn’t know him particularly well but he was a face I have seen at Brentford for thirty plus years. A regular in the Kings Arms with his brother John and a big music fan too - I used to bump into both bothers at gigs around London.

Worked with Ian for many years and used to see him at Brentford ....he was always booking tickets for concerts and loved his music...not seen him for a few years since I retired but am totally shocked by this news as he was always a keep fit type of person and it was a ritual at work that he had an orange every day - one in the morning and another in the afternoon.
He always kept his desk top immaculately tidy and uncluttered - so when he went to lunch we used to move his pens and ruler around - would send him potty when he returned.

Yeh Ian lived with his brother John in Stanwell and worked for an airfreight company also in Stanwell.

You’d definitely recognise him, mate. I can’t find a photo of Ian on social media, but if you look for his brother John, on FB, his face will ring a bell, I’m sure.

I regularly used to bump into Ian in Tesco’s in Ashford, we would always spend a few minutes discussing Brentford. This went on for a few years, we’d nod at each other at the football and say hi. One day I was on the train up to London with my wife to see a New Zealand singer called Aldous Harding, Ian was on the train and to my surprise he had heard of her, no one else ever has, and for the next 20 minutes or so we discussed music, gigs and Brentford, it was clear how much Ian loved his music. We swapped numbers and promised to meet up with each other to go to a gig. That never happened unfortunately but we always spoke at the football and I always thought what a lovely guy he was and always enjoyed catching up with him.

Today, as always, I was in the Kings Arms before the game and I looked over to the corner Ian was always in and I realised I’d not seen him for a while. I wondered where he was. I opened the door to his brother as he left the pub meaning to stop him and ask how Ian was. And now I found this thread and am really upset to have discovered this news.

Ian, you were a lovely and I miss bumping into you. I’m sorry we never went to that gig. John I am sorry for you loss. RIP Ian.
