hate's a bit strong and yes i imagine all managers are ex players. Im not calling for MA in particular, but it has to be someone who has been a proven success with no money. I just think going for players who have never managed isn't the best way forward-we can't use Brentford as a stepping stone for everyone who fancies a dabble at management.

Wrong Ian i'm afraid (even though he's wright) - go for Ian Atkins he knows this league like the back of his hand, he's kept Torquay up had good spells with Oxford and Carlisle and a decent run at Bristol Rovers. It would be nice if we got a sensible appointment, but somehow I don't think it will happen.

The thought of appointing Ian Atkins as manager to succeed MA filled me with dread. However, he's now by far and away the most sensible choice. Burrows would be a good appointment too and if we wanted to take a bit more of a risk, Daish is well worth a look.

I met Ian Wright, at the petrol station near where I work the other day.

Seemed like a nice bloke, if slightly excitable.

Neat hat he was sporting too.....He filled up his 4x4 with £35 worth of unleaded, and brought a mini pack of pringles.....His mobile phone was on, all the time

So, to be clear, if Butcher resigns / is sacked, you are suggesting that the next managerial appointment - which imho may well be the most important in the club's history - should be an ex-footballer with lots of enthusiasm and a big mouth, who has had absolutely no experience of management, never mind in the lower leagues and spends his time analysing Premiership and International matches ?

Since Wrightys ruled himself out perhaps Robbie Williams should be contacted. He's a keen football fan, "supports" Port Vale so knows the lower leagues, has contacts and management experience in LA and it would give us some media attention

A bit hazy but I'm sure I read either on the OS or in Tuesday's programme that Luton's budget is 8 times ours. Didn't stop them putting out a shower of sh*t that was ready for the taking last Tuesday though. Morecambe could have had them easy.

Allegedly Newell was on £400K before he left so while you never know I would think unlikely he would want to take over here.

I hated him as an oppo player and manager but to be fair he has delivered wherever he's been. Hartlepool and Luton and I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't have started with huge budgets at either.

For me, he is the type of manager we need, experience of playing at this level, proven success as a manager and an ability to make money out of players he signed when sold on.
He also appears to be his own man who will not play ball if the board don't play ball, lets face it, nice guys don't seem to work anymore at Brentford.

That's not me touting him for the job as I don't think we could get him but maybe the selection panel could bear him in mind of when setting criteria.
