For those of you who wished him harm ( ie break a leg on the last day he plays for us etc) will have to wait a long time he just signed for the season with the club having an extra option of a year. As I posted on the other board he was never going to Reading whilst Mackie was there. The best news I've had today

Why would he sign for virtually zero wages? Well 500 quid whatever - Didn't he get an offer from anybody else?

Not knocking it! Love the fact he's staying but it just don't add up does it?

Maybe I've been lied too so often by Uncle Ron I'm always looking for the "darker" angle everytime now :confused:

As I understand it the £500 per week represents the average salary per player sought by the club and not the maximum sum! Anyone know different? Furthermore Bees Utd. are hoping to apply this figure to a maximum of 24 players next season. Am I right?

There's no way that we'll find out exactly what he's earning, but, provided his earnings are not putting additional pressure on the club's financial position, I'm absolutely delighted he's signed - he's a top class find and has been our best player by far this season. He's more than adequately filled the shoes of the legend Ivar and let's hope that his signing gives the players a boost to restart the push for at least a play off place.

I posted re the leg break and stand by it...ex-players are that....but I am delighted that he has decided to reward Brentford for giving him a chance in English football.

No we only need to worry about a striker that can score...

Bloody fantastic news.

I can feel a couple of pints of London Pride coming on as celebration tonight.

Just one question to those in the know. What does a "club option of a further year" mean? I mean in terms of transfer fees.

Does that mean that if somebody wants to take him on at the end of this season we can get a fee because we have an option to renew his contract ? (or not).

Only saying this because the bloke could be worth shedloads the way hes playing.

Much as I like him if Man Utd want to pay us £5m to replace Laurent Blanc then lets not argue...............

Alright maybe not £5m but he is bloody good.

Younger players? Ibu's 21!! It's scary to think he's so young but so good, and fantastic news for the club. Well done Bees for signing up IBUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I got my prediction of good news on 2 fronts half right !

Fantastic boost to Brentford both in terms of the squad but also because it gives us another saleable asset in these difficult times.

At best we will have Sonko with us for 18 months, at worst we should earn a sizeable fee for him by the end of this season.

Great news.

Interesting to see on Teletext, that the delay was caused by waiting for the Home Office to confirm his EU citizenship status. Damn, all those rumours about Reading and agents were far more interesting.

Great news that he has signed, the potential in this squad could be good. If we can stay in the top 8 - get a playoff position these boys will learn and can only get better. As for player of the season, Paul Smith is a superb keeper, he has the poential I believe to go on and play Prem football.

Fantastic news! He may not be earning top whack but perhaps there are other things that persuaded him to stay at Brentford. I seem to remember his girlfriend was moving to England with him and that they had some choice between Up North or Brentford, so 'nuff said.

Excellent news - chuffed that the club still seem to have some ambition. My praise goes to Mr Downes - even if we finish one place above relegation, he'll have done a sterling job, and the signing of Sonko, and possibly other players, will prove that!!

he is a very good player but the elevation to legendary status is slightly premature. He has hardly put a foot wrong since he joined us but to expect the whole first division to be aware of this is a little naive. Add to this that the only teams that are not in the poop that can afford to buy players/high wages etc. have already used that ability to build up a squad. Those that require a player can't afford it.

Makes perfect sense to me!

Spot on.........don't underestimate the sh*te many clubs are in, far worse than us in fact, the last thing they can do is take on any more wages.

Ibu and his agent have probably worked out that there will be many sellers but few buyers in January. Best to stay first choice player in a club going forward and keep in the shop window, after all we are hardly likely to refuse any half decent offer that may come along, so he can't really lose.

Wilko must be gutted, Ibu has scored almost as many goals as the rest of his team put together!

£500 per week is the average for players in the squad NOT the maximum - therefore I suspect that we are paying more than Sunderland could afford.
