Idea for BU:

I am sure the big boys of BU want to see half capable footballers at GP next season as much as the rest of us!

Obviously with our wage restrictions that may not be possible

However how about setting up a separate fund for wages: I am sure a decent number of fans are not giving as much to BU as they could for one reason or another but might be willing to stump up a few quid if they knew it was going directly to keeping a specific player

I for one would happily fork out an extra quid a week to keep young Mr Hunt here and I am sure I am not the only one

I think you could find a thousand fans who would pay the surcharge in order to keep a proven talent at GP and to keep the football watchable (sort of) next season

How about it?

Idea for BU:

Nice idea but not sure it would work. What would happen if he started playing cr@p or got a bad injury. I can see people stopping their payments if they don't think it's worth it....

Nice one Paz, took the words right out of my mouth. Count me in.

Idea for BU:

Seperate fund

Sadly I suspect that it would detract from the general Bees united funding and could therefore mean the fans "own" a player who has no club to play for! If you have cash you are prepared to invest, then invest it in Bees Utd to enure we have a club to watch in the coming years.

Despite being a paid up BU man I trust them to look after this club no more than I trusted Uncle Ron

At present I am willing to invest more in the team but not in the club

I am certain I am not alone

I am convinced that people through the turnstiles and second division survival are as vital to the long term future of this club as anything else

I do not believe that the men behind the scenes share my conviction

Fair points

I do not think cr@p is a worry since even if he has shocker after shocker next season he will still be consistently our best player :(

However maybe £fifty two pounds up front might be necessary - could guarantee meeting the man etc in return which I am sure Hunty would be willing to do! Otherwise people could be made to sign a contract guaranteeing the pound a month

As for injury get him insured - should not be too bad seeing as he has been injury free for the majority of his career

Paz, Well done!
Nice to know that some fans are at least trying to come up with other ideas!
And it looks like you already have another two that agree, but I'm afraid that Luton Bee is Spot On!

I cannot understand though why you mistrust BU, I can assure you they've got no ulterior motive, and without them.......you ain't got a Club!!!!!!!

Why don't you get together with Rod and WWB and take it on from there?.................it would be a great achievement if you can get the other 997 to commit!

BU needs other fans to get involved with their own ideas like this, so well done Paz..........why not give it a go!
Good Luck mate
SSB
(ps. the above is just my personal view, but your enthusiasm certainly cannot be faulted)

I trust BU to run the club a damn lot more than Uncle Ron. George Bush and Sadam Hussein would be up there in preference to Ron (although Ron's fiscal policies are similar to Bush's tax cut idea!). However, it might be worth exploring Paz's idea further. If their are fans at QPR willing to invest in players (and not in 'QPR first'), then surely there will be a similar body of opinion at Brentford?

It's a neat idea, even though the comparison of BU with Ron is pretty offensive. But I think Luton Bee has hit the nail on the head. PAZ - you say "At present I am willing to invest more in the team but not in the club," but to all intents and purposes it's the same thing.

swr22, you beat me to it!!!!!!

I was talking to a QPR fan last night (yeah, sad isn't it!) and he said that some of their fans, independently of the Club or their Supporters Trust, bought sh*ttu and paid his wages!!!!

I told him that some of our fans were going to do likewise.
About that time though the booze kicked in and he said, 'Oh Yeah,
typical Brentford fans ....all talk!'
I think it was about that time that I kicked him!!!!!!!!

Anyway good luck with it Paz!!!!!!!!

While I agree with what Edmundo says about the team and club being essentially the same thing, the thread has demonstrated that there are plenty of people who are not aware of this. Either we tell them that BU will halp to secure our better players at GP (and then Lionel Road!), or we do as QPR have done and let them invest their money in a player instead. Whatever way you want to look at it, there must be people who are happy to give money to BU if they knew that the money could be spent how they wished. How do we reach them?

As I suggested above, I believe our fans are better than QPR's!

If their fans have done it INDEPENTLY, (by getting together!)
....................CAN'T OURS ?????????

(I don't want to have to meet THAT QPR fan too soon!)

seems like a nice idea but i am not sure that the practicalities would work out.

Nice contribution to the discussion davebee! What are you worried about? what practicalities? It's always good to have a valueable "davebee" contribution!

Almost invariably several days after the event

Why Dave? Why? Do you not read threads until they have slumped down the page?

No politics please

As far as I'm concrned it's either football or politics, not both. If you want support for a program to help Brentford I'm all for it. If it involves taking sides in a political issue, count me out! George Bush and any other politician belongs on the Chit Chat forum.

Ok, say for example somebody sets up a direct debit for lets say £20 a month, and the player is on a one year contract. If he starts performing badly, what is to stop fans from cancelling the direct debit? Who then picks up the wages, which the club is otherwise unable to perform. Also, what happens with regards to choosing the player. Would everybody sponsor the same player ie 1000 fans pay Mr X's wages or do fans sponsor lots of different players? If that player became injured, what would happen then? There are so many different scenarios, which would cause people to cancel the payments if they felt they were getting nothing in return.

Idea for BU:

The Winton Brothers who put up the sh*ttu money gave the money in a lump sum didn't they? Only clear way of it working would be signing a contract to pay x amount a month for the same time period as the players contract.

Why, 3 days after the event, raise points that have A) already been asked and B) have already been more or less answered?

What exactly is your problem?
