How can I set my smart phone so stuff about anything other than football doesn't get through to my phone. I'm thinking any US sport, Rugby, Cricket or any general rubbish that doesn't interest me?

On the desktop, you can ignore threads which will hide them from your view. Look at Thread tools.

Click on your name in the menu bar and select Ignoring from you profile. All members will be listed and you can deselect them to remove them from the list.
