I think there’s so many fans, including our own, who retain the idea of what a player should be doing and how to measure it from 20+ years ago.

It’s easy to think No. 9 = centre forward = goals without looking for or understanding what his overall contribution is to the team’s style of play.

Igor will often drop back and be a sort-of playmaker when it’s easy to think he should be rooted to the penalty spot… but opposition centre backs get dragged out of position and we have Schade and Ouattara who can take advantage.

Exactly!!
Despite the numerous games Igor has scored in this season, I still maintain his "best"/most impressive performance was in the 4-1 home defeat of Bournemouth over Christmas.
Schade got a hat-trick, but IT was absolutely immense that day!!

Bet you wouldnt put money on Haaland not scoring against the Gooners though

“Igor Thiago (Brentford): Both of our strikers have had their best run of the season. Thiago is the first Brazilian to get 20 goals in a Premier League season. Unreal. To think he was out for a season with an injury and to come back the way he has - big, powerful, looks grateful to play. He's not taken it for granted. Where would Brentford be without him? And if he carries on like this, how can Brentford keep him?”

We’ll keep him because he’s just signed a new 5 year contract and it will take 9 figures to get him.

I keep seeing people say online that they would let him go for around 60 million and I think that is absolutely bananas. I keep saying, based on his age and his contract, if someone call comes calling, I tell them to start with Isak money

First half was close to the best number 9 performance I've seen in the PL for any team - he was unplayable as you say

Nothing new unfortunately - Haaland was labelled a "tap in merchant", Salah a one season wonder, and now Thiago is nothing without his penalties. Top players are always assailed by people with a bone to pick but for what it's worth everyone I know in the real world has been nothing but complimentary of Thiago.

Most Bees fans recognise that IT"s contribution to the team is more than just his goals, although one might argue that is enough.
His all round play, his defensive contribution, how he holds the ball and brings others into play is quite outstanding. Not to mention his aerial ability....
Coupled with an infectious, positive personality, it would be quite hard to find a better all round footballer than Igor.

Surprised to see more people genuinely seeing Igor leaving at the end of the season as a serious possibility.

Yes, if someone came in with ridiculous money, (85m +). But one season? Much more likely clubs will wait to see how he’s doing middle of next then decide

We’re Brentford fans; it's in our DNA to want to flog off any player who turns out half decent.

With the top end of the striker market in such a dismal state this seems to be undervaluing Thiago a little. Might be jumping the gun here but I would hope that he would go for something closer to Isak money (that is £120,000,000 or so). It's a huge figure but he is young, prolific, prem proven, and perhaps soon internationally proven - and all these things will push the price up.

Quite incredible how comfortably he's adapted. Can't help but feel it's more those around him that need to help him out more than vice versa.

Should have had three but not his night, we know what he can do so we move on. Was more concerned he was going to get himself sent off in the latter stages.
