Mr A Hall- You were shocking, you really were.

The referee blew at the right times but for all the wrong reasons, he was terrible. He ruled over his assistants so that they looked scared to disaprove with him. It was shocking, I really couldn't believe how he changed the rules-

1) Partridge running through, gets tugged at. Free kick given, being the last man the red card has to be given but no I'll give hime a yellow instead. My view is that it could have gone either way, but giving the free kick means the players has to go.
2) Oli gathers a ball from a corner, and is knocked to the ground by Carey. The ref has no option but to give a free kick, and then allows the player to run off, not even a talking too, the physical nature warranted a red card.
3) Evans goes to floor under a challenge from Russell, then Russell stamps on him. Now a red surely, no Mr Hall decides to give a yellow, why surely its one of the worst offences possible, not his book.
4) Charles fouls their player fair enough a free kick and a maybe a yellow. Then Carey is allowed to his push two Brentford players and then put his hand to a players face and twist it. Off runs Carey with the ref and linesman right on the spot they decide that no action is to be taken.

HOW did this happen I have no understanding how Carey was not even booked today, there are players who should face extra discoplinary action, but Mr Hall you are a DISGRACE.

PS. After getting that off my chest I feel better!!

Thought Julian was lucky to stay on the pitch! He smacked the Wrexham player

and he`d only been on the pitch for @ 3/4 mins

Agree ref was pants tho

Inept Refereeing

Found one situation a wee bit daft:

Sometime in the second half a Bee got his shirt tugged, freekick to Wrexham, seconds later, as if to make up for his mistake, whilst a Wrexham player was having his shirt fiddled with a Brentford free kick was awarded

I could only shake my head

Anyone else see the irony that the biggest thug on the pitches name was Carey?

It wasn't me! I sat in D-Block next to Edmundo all game.

jonno...u was saying to me that you wouldn't have sent him off!!

u muppet you're as inconsistent as teh ref! i was that one saying that it was a red, not you, so hush mateo :P

I know that the club decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the commentary for the blind scheme, but I didn't think it was necessary to choose the referee to mark the occasion!

Seriously, can anyone tell me why he blew up when Lloydy had rounded Dearden in the first half? Linesman had definitely not flagged for offside. Several other strange decisions, but this is the one that is still nagging me.

But let's not worry too much, we got 3 points anyway! And just how brave is Julian Charles? Their number 5, Carey must be twice his size and had shown throughout the game what a thug he is. To land that punch on him showed real bottle .... or complete insanity!

Inept Refereeing

Agree about Charles attempting to floor their big mug of a defender had my young son laughing all the way home mumbling about must try that at footie tomorrow...but the ref and lino's .... they were awful, apart from agreeing with above why did he insist on blowing his whistle so often, it really riuned the game and were all those offsides really correct could'nt really see from the Ealing Rd but some of them looked absurd..like can you really be offside from a goalkick!!!

Yes - but are you referring to George or William?

Because he thought that Lloydy had illegally "turned" the defender by leaning into him with his hip - at least that's my interpretation (actually thought he was right on this one and I got the impression Lloyd thought so too)

Not sure about point one. The rules don't say anything about being last man. The wording is all about preventing a clear goalscoring oppurtunity.

Scotty P still had a bit to do as he was about 35 yards out, so in my opinion a yellow was probably right but that said I have seen defenders sent off on the half way line for it.

The ref was still bad though. The challenge by Russell on Evans was frankly an assault and a straight red was the order of the day.

Inept Refereeing

The ref was atrotious and completely inconsistant, nothing he did seemed to make sense.
In an important game there may well have been anger but I couldn't help but just laugh.

No what I said was that I wouldn't have given the free kick as I thought Partridge could have taken advantage of the situation, but having called the free kick, the red card should have been shown. Look at the Barnet game, Partridge was out wide, last man brought him down with a tug, red carded and Partridge almost certainly wouldn't have scored.

Inept Refereeing

I thought the Ref was the latest in a long line of very poor officials that we have seen this season , Trundle ( as good as he was ) conned him time and time again 'falling to the floor '!

Inept Refereeing

the ref today at hillsboro (graham barber) was an absolute mockery, booked quinny for a slide tackle, then realised that was bollox so booked the next utd player he saw.... amongst other things.... the thing that REALLY annoys me is the fact that assistant refs are NEVER any help
mad.gif

Inept Refereeing

Totally agree with everyone's sentiments on the ref.
Wrexham were undoubtedly thuggish throughout the game, and the ref could have stamped his foot down at some point in the game.
Made for frustrating viewing, and I pray that he is not reffing the LDV final.

Inept Refereeing

agree with the point about foul on partridge, he was running towards the corner flag. ref was a bit of a joke though. it also really pisses me off when you get these big heffa's like carey (brabin, andy morrison to name others) who only seem to be on the pitch to 'rough things up' with no intention of playing football. saying that id probably think it was great it they were wearing red and white stripes!

Inept Refereeing

No one has mentioned the penalty that was not given in the first half when Scoty P was pulled down just inside the area. The assisitant ref was looking straight at it with an unobstructed view, but let the ref, who was 25 yards away, award a free kick just outside the area.

This was also the assistant ref who was playing the inverse offside rule!!!

Inept Refereeing

I actually found myself laughing hysterically after a while because it was so bad it was just plain bloody hilarious.
When Julian punched that tw*t in the face the lino was about 2 yards away. The ref saw nothing and asked the lino who must have told him what charles had done cos he booked him. If he pealised charles he knows what he has done there a red surely.
I thought partridge pulled their defender back before he went thru but after the ref decided it was a foul a red card must follow. The player never pulled scott back just once as he faced the corner flag, he was actually pulling him back for 10-15 yards as scott tried to break free. If he hadn't been pulling his shirt for a good 5-6 seconds then he would have been well clear on goal. Because the ref took so long to give the foul it gave the rest of the defence time to recover to make it look like a non goal scoring chance!
As for the linesman, some decisions are close when the ball hangs for ages and people can make 10-15 yards whilst we all look at the ball, but about 7 out of 10 on saturday the players were not even close to offside, one where lloyd was at least 10 yards on side was quite staggering!

The game of football is the entertainment, the ref is there to make sure it is played by the rules. Some refs think that their part in the proceedings are as bigger part as the game and therefore feel they have to blow up every 10-15 seconds. He kept doing this even though there wasn't a foul. it was almost one for us and one for them in constant repetition. Makes it a very dull day out for us!!

Inept Refereeing

knowing our luck we'll get that idiot for the LDV final. Just the sort of fool who'll ruin a good game.

The ref for the final's already been decided - it was in last week's Chronicle I think. Can't remember his name (except it isn't Saturday's clown) but it's his last game before retirement !

Holy sh*t, you wanna see this character

Bill Burns Record:

29 games refereed.
47 yellow card
0 red cards
Ave. tme of 1sr card - 47 mins
Ave. time between cards - 55.53 mins
Bias level of 57% which means he is fairly biased towards the home teams. 100% means a total level of consistency.

Inept Refereeing

This means we will have to make loads of noise at Cardiff to make it sound like we are the home team.

Inept Refereeing

I searched for League referees and it comes up under statistics. simple as that

I think you get them from soccerbase.

It's a football statistics website.

This particular ref was in charge of our game at Cambridge last season and he was inconsistent and whistle happy then. It was rumoured that he fancied himself as the youngest ref likely to get promotion to the premier league or was it that he just fancied himself ?

Big Neil, if you read this board enough you will know that there are a few Referees on here.
I personally take offence to your comment. Do you know the Laws of the game? Do you know why Players get booked for kicking the ball away? Is Offside an Offence or a Position?
I challenge you to two things.
Sit the Referees Exam without doing the course and see if you can pass.
Then Referee a game.
After that you can come back and say to me this is easy and all Referees are sh*t. And when you say that, you could be five years from passing the exam to football league line! Then you too can stand on the line making decisions and get people like you abusing you!

Inept Refereeing

I'M SO SORRY!! I shouldn't have started this thread. Big Neil what you might not know is I'm a ref so I have an educated view on what he did wrong. I'm only critising MR Hall as he showed a lack of understanding of the rules and was not aware of many thing going on. Refereeing is often about opinions and just because he didn't give a decision to your team it doesn't make him wrong. As Jim says until you've done it, you don't know the half of it. My complaints were that he had two qualified lino's which he didn't use to full effect. If I could trust my lino's on a Sunday morning I would be delighted but its just not like that.

If you want to take part in Jim's challenge email us and we can get you in contact with the right people.

Inept Refereeing

We have had some poor refs this season tho.

Inept Refereeing

we have but he is talking about refs as a whole, david elleraly & paul durkin, these are top referees & deserve to be where tehy are ebcause tehy do it well, along with pierluigi collina the italian ref, these ppl are very good & are far above the standard that we have witnessed this season.

So blah :P

Well, seen a few replies now, but no one yet taking up the challenge. Don't knock the job until you've tried it. So come on then Big Neil, mhead bee, are you going to have a go?

Inept Refereeing

I often hear things like "all refs are wimps", "you cant play football". Well that isnt correct, we are not wimps we have a very hard job and to do it shows were not wimping out like Big Neil, Maidenhead Bee. I have to say I dont have a great football talent but how many people on this board do? We as refs are seeing the talents of the future or present in front of us and we make a decent wage, two good incentives!

So come you lazy wimps give it a go!

Inept Refereeing

Good for Jim & Jonno.
I would not be a ref they just cannot win 99% of the time they are as honest as possible but we all know that there are niggles and cons going on all the time you get what not even a second to not only blow the whistle but make a decision How many decisions in a match 100 plus on average are you right in every decision you make.
All the same some of them are bloody poor the one this thread is about even made our groundsman change some lines prior to the match!
