Interview 1: The Discussion Thread

This thread is for you to discuss the interview as it happens (and afterwards, of course). No questions here please - use the other thread for that.

Please note that the Martin Allen, and everyone else at the interview, will not be reading this thread.

This thread will remain closed until the interview starts

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

I must admit when we played at Hull and that chap was out on the pitch doing his bit as we were waiting for the game to start I can't tell you how close I was to nicking that mic off him and telling everybody how great our players all were and how great all our supporters are. That would have been fun and one day it will happen

Can't wait for this to happen rofl

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

A good read, thank you to all involved and of course to Martin himself.

Could anybody else imagine the Fergusons or Wengers of the world doing something like this? No I thought not. They would rather spend their time fighting each other than talking to their fans.

Interview 1: The Discussion Thread

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

Well, it was a huge privelege to do this as well as being great fun. I'd like to thank everyone for the questions, without which there would have been no interview. I know that we didn't get through all the questions and there were some people who missed out - all I can say is that I was trying to get as many in as possible, without going over the same ground as previous answers had covered.

Thanks to Alex for setting up the ISDN link, before disappearing off to another engagement, to Banana for his typing skills as Martin dictated, to Barry Quinn for teas and coffees and to everyone who helped make this possible.

I am now going to see how much money we can raise for Bees United by not naming the person who attacked Martin Allen on his previous visit - he is a well known GPG member! ;) Let's see if we can buy his silence.

Could there be some sort of competition in trying to guess the name? Perhaps we should open a book with all profits to BU?

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

Dangerous was in MA's bad books before this (re: the seson ticket).....was it him again?

Interview 1: The Discussion Thread

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

Can I just say thanks to the following people
1. Alex for going to the Training Ground early one morning last week before work to test out and set-up the internet link and for turning up ultra early this morning as Martin had unthoughtfully arranged the dates to co-incide with a Christening that Alex's other half wouldn't let him get out of. We also used Alex's ISP account so most grateful thanks to him - mind you we didn't tell Martin what awful things Alex posted about Rankin after the Hartlepool game, so he owed us :D

2. Edmundo who organised the questions and was asking them too and bravely (it was like watching Jeremy Paxman in there ;) ) putting the West Ham question to the gaffer.

3. Most of all to Martin who was happy to answer all questions (well except Brentford Bob's) . What originally was going to be an "open hour" when I first discussed it with Martin was extended to 90 minutes at the start of today and I think in the end we had 2 hours with him. This is man who says "this is a job" Also saw a touching moment with him and his son, whom he had come to watch play in Brentford colours this morning. That certainly wasn't a David Brent management technique :sorted:

4. Barry Quin who got in early this morning to let us in to set-up (and makes a fine cup of tea)

5. Roy King, Lisa Hall and Winnie Taylor who organised the internet-access software, liaison and the date.

6. All of you for asking the questions and being there. Phew!

Apologies for the occassional slowness of responses, sometimes the link was a little unresponsive, we watched Dave Lane & Co on the TV, and with two hours of constant typing I needed the occassional lie down - I've also been checking up on my Repetitive Strain Injury insurance policy.

Interview 1: The Discussion Thread

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

Agreed. Are there any other clubs where supporters enjoy this kind of opportunity to chat with their manager? Its just brilliant. I, too, want to thank everyone who made it possible. (Fascinating to "see" people gradually rolling out of bed on a Sunday morning as the numbers crept up from a desultory 7 or 8 on line at 9.30am!)

Re: The GPG Martin Allen interview - discussion thread

I was up bright eyed and bushy tailed at 9.15 (a first, for a very long time, I might add). Well worth it and just to reiterate what others have said, many thanks to all those who made it possible. Superb.

No, it wasn't Dangerous either. I think I am going to charge £1 a guess with proceeds to Bees United from now. Those who have guessed wrongly already can decide whether or not to make a £1 contribution!

Brentford Bob - we did discuss your question and next time I see you, I'll let you know more!

And big thanks to Banana, who had the idea in the first place and the cheek to ask!
