No, that rewrites things. He spent two seasons on the wing for us not one. It wasn’t a “doh, what were we thinking?” change but always in plan to develop him into a striker after he’d had time to learn how to read the game at a higher level than L2 from the wing. It was still a risk and a gamble to play him there in 19/20 when Maupay left.

When Ollie initially went up top on occasion, he really didn't look like he could hack it. Clearly, he and the coaching staff put in a lot of behind the scenes work because eventually he became a bit of a beast at Championship level. He was obviously being trained up for the job.

I remember saying he didn’t have any of the qualities needed for that position, anticipation, finishing, hold up play, movement. When we sold NM and didn’t replace I thought it was a huge risk.

6 months later I saw we had the most complete forward we have had, exceptional workrate, good in the air, good with both feet, fast, good hold up play, can beat players either way and can also get involved if he had to. I can’t see a weakness and he should be in the England squad behind Harry Kane.

Anyway, this is the IT thread and I have bumped it so I expect everyone will dive in thinking something has happened.
