You have to take into account that he was up against Lloyd Sam on saturday a very capable performer at this level. He kept Sam quiet which nullified much of their threat going forward. I thought he did ok. Also you tend to forget he is only 19, so still developing. He would imo would be an excellent addition to our squad.

I agree, he would be a very good signing for us. He's pacey, likes to get forward and has a very good left foot. It seems Woodman is well out of Uwe's thoughts so we need a new LB and maybe Pim will figure next season at CB or cover for LB ?

I think that young Jake is nowhere near Dickson's level just yet but thankfully isn't that close to Woodman's either.
When you hear and see him travelling up to Hartlepool and putting it in then you realise that the lad isn't one of these loan signings who are here for the ride.

I think both full backs were penned back by Notts which blunted our style and due credit to Notts. Personally, I don't think Bidwell is quick enough for the premiership but is more than capable at League 1 and Championship levels. It will be interesting to see what Everton do. I think there's a good chance of a season loan or even a transfer if they don't make him an offer.
I'd have to disagree with your assessment.

I am basing my David Pleat style assessment on watching three home games of late where he has looked easier to beat than I would like. Also body language...not sure he's bothered.

Bidwell is our loanee LB. Shaleum Logan is the RB and is contracted to us, until the end of the season at least. Dean is our left sided CB. Which one of those are you thinking of ?! FWIW, I'd look to keep all of them.

He has given his all, played for the team, not been a prima donna, mucked in, been tough and determined, rarely been outpaced, known when to get stuck in and when to back off, defended well, passed the ball accurately, always looked to get forward, won his fair share of headers, been hard to get past, put in many dangerous crosses too.

What more can you ask for given his age and experience. IMO he is up there with the best young loanees we have ever brought in and at his age he will only get better.

Dickson might be better going forward but he is not as good as Bidwell as a defender and if I had to make a choice it would be a tough one but given the long term perspective I would go for Bidwell.

I bow to your assessment given you clearly have seen more of him than me but of the points raised I would say in the last three home games I've seen him get done. I've also watched him be less than alert when Lee was looking for options to play the balll out. I cannot disagree that as a young loanee hes done well I can only call it I have seen it in the games I've seen. And I'm still pretty certain purely based on body language he's not been up for it.

To clarify I don't wear glasses, I don't drink TOO MUCH beofre games and I sit top of B Block so I'm in a good postition to see what he's doing in one half at least!

To close I bow to concensus that maybe I've read him wrong. It's actually quite nice being told I'm wrong by several people prepared to jump up and point out the good things Bidwell is doing so fair play. Normally it's the other way round ie people jumping down your thraoot to sya players are rubbish.

I like Bidwell - he has always remonded me of Dobbo as he was when he first came into the side (ie before injury slowed him down). However, on Saturday I did notice at least one occasion when he clearly wasn't watching what was going on: Lee was trying to throw the ball out but Bidwell wasn't paying attention despite Lee (and eventually the crowd) shouting at him. Needs to eliminate that fault in his game. Otherwise I'd definitely keep him.

Dean (who I'm actually less keen on) did completely miss a couple of kicks which could have been pretty disastrous, but considering he and KO were up against a man mountain, I think he did pretty well.

I'm glad Paul OB saw the things Bidwell did that I saw. Not in any way to take away from the good things people are sayiing about him.

LOL- I'm not saying he's rubbish I'm just pointing out the things I saw I worried about. As an ex full back I tend to judge full backs slightly differently! That aside I wouldn't sign him based on what I've seen of late. I dont think saying he's better than what we've got is the ultimate criteria.

Bidwell has been the most consistent defender and, in the last run of games, he's been up against some decent right wingers and attackers. He seems to take 15 minutes to sus them out but then is hardly beaten. All players make mistakes but his no-nonsense approach is real defending. Meanwhile, Dickson is hardly setting the world alight at Orient; personally I think Bidwell is better defensively... and belies his age.

Should the opportunity arise I would love to see him sign he offers good defensive work as well as having a great cross on him. I would certainly chose him over Dickson if we were given the option

Young players will have inconsistent games and yes on Saturday he did look a bit distracted at times but he was playing the biggest game of his short career so far and was marking a very good quick player in Sam so I would forgive for everything on that score.

Absolutely nailed it along with NLB. Sam scored two goals the game before ours. Young Jake played very well. If we can get him ( guess we will see this week or next if he's to be offered a contract with Everton ) I would be very very pleased.

I was speaking to some Everton fans on their way back from Wembley on Saturday and bidwell is off their radar. They had never even heard of him. Thought at the time that was good news for us. I had a brief chat with Jake a couple of weeks ago at griffin park and he said he loves it here. Maybe there will be a chance of signing him.

Absolutely; which is also why the young striker from West Bromwich should be forgiven. The important thing is to promote their development, both in footballing and personal development terms, in the right way. Although I see what the Club is doing in this respect only from the outside you can't fail to be both pleased and impressed with the way we are evolving, something that is to the credit of a whole raft of people at Brentford.

I met quite a few disappointed Everton supporters in a local watering hole after Saturdays game, not surprisingly Bidwell is highly rated and they don't believe we have a hope of signing him (although an extended loan would do for me). He played really well again on Saturday. Sam is fast and direct but only on his left foot, Bidwell simply would not let him cut inside. He would be a great capture on loan next season.

We should hear soon whether he's to be offered a contract by Everton. It's crunch time and I don't see Everton giving him a deal unless they see him as a realistic first team squad player in the next two years. Is he Premiership standard? There are players ahead of him in the pecking order at Everton. IMO his weakness is lack of pace to play at the highest level and he gets caught by tricky quick wide players in League 1. There is a chasm between Leage1 and the top level so I wouldn't be surprised if he were to be released. He's more than capable at League 1 and Championship levels but he may be too small a fish for the big time.
