What is an England player? Someone who never performs? Why not good luck to him, if he does well other championship players may get a look in.

Seems a decent enough Championship player but the quality of English players is going down and Smalling how? He doesnt play for United and I thought you had to be playing for your club regularly to play for England?

Yeah good luck to him but theres a reason why at 28 he's still in the championship. Agree with you about England players but think instead of getting championship players in we need to get someone in who can get these big headed top class players out of their own arses.

its a joke, if he was 21 then fair enough but its a wasted cap, he's 28, been around the block and has had 1.5 good seasons in his career and suddenly he's got a call up to the England squad.

Years and years of fans worried that if you imported most of the Premiership (spit) from other countries then English players wouldn't get a chance and the quality of young English players would good down hill.

What is the point of these friendly internationals at this time of year. These are critical times for all teams in the league and it is obvious that they will be reluctant to release players for meaningless internationals. Just look at all the withdrawals been made this weekend for all the home countries incuding the ROI. you can bet they will all be back playing at the weekend. OK it gives some of the others a chance to show what they can do but let's face it most of them will never play international football again after this week. It's almost as if Capello is like some Sunday league manager on the phone on a Saturday night night trying to get a team together for the next day because so and so's got to go to his niece's christening, so and so's got pissed and fallen over, so and so's off on a dirty weekend, etc,etc.

Taylor picked a lot of donkeys for England, but I assure you Mike Duxbury wasn't one of them. He would have been early Bobby Robson era.

and let's not get too revisionist here, Palace finished 3rd before Thomas was unsettled by Blackburn hovering over him to "partner" him with Sutton and Shearer! he was one of the top midfielders in the country at the time! all went downhill after that miss against France, which would've been a bloody sexy goal had it gone in btw (the big showoff tart)

Quite frankly nobody in an England shirt at the World Cup did anything to put themselves above any other player in England in my opinion. Davies, Cahill, Bothroyd et al deserve a crack, they can't be any worse and hell they may even have some pride to wear the shirt and the hunger to succeed not like Shrek and co.

Andy Gray is 1000x better example than Geoff Thomas - he and Thomas were the Palace centre-mids at the time and Gray somehow got an England call which surprised even Palace fans at the time :D rocket of a shot though...

(sorry, my father used to drag me to Selhurst when i was young :()

Forward options of Bothroyd, Carroll, Crouch and Cole aren't inspiring. But the match is a waste of time - though perhaps not quite as bad as the Scots playing the Faroe Islands. I know they lost to them once, but the top non-league side in Glasgow would probably have been equally credible opposition.
