I think he came in for some OTT criticism - had some decent games for us at the start of the 2002-3 season. Good luck to him.

Came in for OTT criticism because he wasn't up to the task, yet only one person at the club couldn't see it - can't blame the lad himself. I hope it all goes well for him at his new club.

It doesn't seem to matter what happens at our club but there are always complaints.
Lets examine the Jay Smith situation :
- He has barely played for the last year
- Without checking I suspect the last game he was picked for as a first choice was the Wrexham debacle in January when he missed that open goal in the first 5 minutes
- He was not in Wally Downes's plans
- He was not in Martin Allen's plans
- He was made available on a free several months ago without any interest from other Football League clubs
- His salary is another drain on the club resources
- He is a young footballer and therefore needs to PLAY
-With no reserve team he is wasting away at Griffin Park
- We really do not need him anymore
- Let him go where he will be able to play and develop
- It's great to bring through young local kids who support the club but they can only stay if they are good enough and unfortunately Jay is not
- Football is a dog eat dog sport and the strongest and best survive
- Better he plays in the Conference than sit at home
- Being released might make him more determined to seize hic chance elsewhere
- So far none of the youngsters released in the last few months has come back to haunt us so it is a question of trusting the Manager's judgement
- We all liked Fieldwick, Hughes, Traynor, Blackman, Wells etc but to date NONE of them have been signed by a Football league club
- Smith going might well open up a chink of an opportunity for an even younger local kid to come through like Muldowney or the like
- Football is about change - get over it

It's great when our players are home-grown and supporters themselves. But it's more important that they are good enough - otherwise you might just as well support Hey Jude FC.casual said:

Its just a shame that we get rid of players that have spent most of their life with the club and then get bombed out after bourenmouth last season,also they would off been happier to stay at the club for a little bit extra then they were getting if you know what i mean.Ed i rather follow Beesotted than Hey Jude.
