I liked him, he never replaced Deano because he wasn’t the same type of player but Bliss had his best scoring season, was he runner up to Guy Wittingham in League?.

Joe played to the crowd with that :D I'm sure he wore a white gum shield like a Boxer.

Remember the 1st leg hat trick against Derby in the English Final of the Anglo Italian Cup, shame we just got midfielder Paul Mortimer ? who was played as central defender & Derby went 3 up in no time – beat them away but went out on away goals to miss the Final.

We are still top of the all time league though, just a shame we never won an extra league 1 match instead and stayed up, he might have become a Hero.

Wasn't he Vinny jone's best mate back then too? sure I remember hearing that somewhere?
I thought he was great !!

Vinney Jones might have been his mate but Mickey Bennett wasn’t after the broken Jaw incident.

Same old Brentford gave him away cheap with add-ons to Port Vale but got stitch up. :(

The VS Rugby celebration was hilarious. I was one of the few who managed to get under the 8' x 6' roof, and stayed dry!

Is it safe to say Richard Cadette was massively overrated.:fishing:

So was Asaba.

Jo was  in a Bees shirt

I disagree with all 3 of those! Cadette was great (although I didn't see enough of him to argue the toss too much).

But if we're using goals as a benchmark - Asaba scored 25 in 47 league games for us. Not bad, is it?

Didn't an ex BFC manager who's initials might be PH say that Cadette couldn't trap a bag of cement?

Joe Allon

Asaba was mustard and better than Cadette and Allon put together.

NONSENSE!!!! richard cadette was quality. he was the mark hughes of his day, but more skillful. superb. perryman IN. :zzzzz:

Joe Allon

He lodged with Vinnie Jones when he moved down from after transferring from Hartlepool (?) and scored on his debut as sub but never really established himself there. His goalscoring record was pretty good everywhere, all home fans took to him as he was a rogue who played to the crowd but he lacked finesse.
He had a face like Shergar and strange galloping gait so for me he always resembled a horse that had unseated his rider, running around aimlessly!

:imwith: Couldn't agree more. Richard Cadette was like Neil Smillie in the sense that they were both miles too good to play for Brentford.

Cadette was a First Division player playing in the Third - no question. And there was Bob Booker in the First Division with Sheffield United. As much as I love Bob, I can only think it was some sort of cultural exchange deal?

I liked joe allon but i have too agree with the previous opinion that cadette was a far more exciting striker and always looked dangerous.

Joe Allon

::love2: robbie cooke too

Now your talking.....Going back to Geordie Joe, As much as all the kind comments read, please don't try & change history & say he was a decent player. Just another name in a long list of (fill in your own word) Brentford strikers.

Agreed totally in terms of his ability and ball skills but IMO RC rather underproduced throughout his career. It was not unti, he went to Falkirk that he shone on a consistent ability.

He had a very goos first season for BFC in 1988 but was in and out for the remainder of his stay at the club.

Maybe he fell foul of Noddy Holder's demands for perspiration rather than inspiration and I loved watching him run at players and create chances.

Joe Allon

Decent player.

But for Reading at home - legend!

 Look at his stats. Does anyone remember Allon's debut? He did his homework good and proper, steaming over to the new road before kick off kissing the badge. Was also great at waving his arms at opposition goalkeepers!

I loved his time at Brentford and he knew where the goal was. Our 4-1 Brisfol Rovers demolition due largely to his hat trick at their sh*t tip in Bath was particularly memorable. :dj:

Joe Allon

I used to copy his corner routine (running round the 'keeper) in my Sunday morning games. lol

Pissed off a lot of 'keepers and got me a goal once. :sorted:

i remember that and now i know who is to blame. and what was your waving your arms about at corners trick? was that geordie joes fault too!? ALLON OUT.

I remember Joe for two things:-

Nicking (I think it was a winner?) at Wolves and celebrating by running behind the goal at the Wolves end touching all the home supporters with his hand as he ran across - this resulted in Me, Ricko and Brentford Bob 'almost' getting the hiding of our lives after the match - Bob never did get his baseball cap back!

Bumping into him in Magaluf whilst on a lads holiday after he was running away from the local Go Kart track after smashing up all the cars!

For those two reasons only he was a legend in my book!

Every time I hear the name Joe Allon I smile. For that reason alone my money spent through the turnstiles in those days were worthy.

:backtotopic:  Mr R.Cadette.

NLB - Was it your "Can the wriggler turn" commentary all those years back or am i thinking of someone else ?

I think it was ... sounds like the sort of dramatic bollox I used to come up with!!

Wish I had brilliant, dramatic bollox .

Joe Allon

all blonde hair and teeth but put the ball in the net now and again, i would have rather watched a semi fit Francis Joseph!!

Joe Allon

Who else remembers his cameo appearance against Barnsley in 1993 when he came off the bench, scored, and was then substituted?

Last home game? He won it for us. Gave us hope. Then didn't get picked for the match where he probably would have lifted spirits a bit and given the rest of them the kick up the arse needed to keep us up. It's the only thing I don't forgive Noddy for     .

 And he looked shattered when he came off too...

Have to agree with that 100% i was there.
Unluckily for Marcus Gayle,Terry Evans and Ashley Bayes they went for a drink in the Feather's in Ealing Broadway that Saturday evening.I left Terry aloan (he worked his socks off like usual),Marcus and Ashley got it, large, even though i had lost my voice shouting at them earlier that day.
Marcus complained to the bouncer,he was out of luck as i knew him:) so he came over and said "what's upset you?" i told about the game and he offered to throw them out.

don't be horrid Groovester, you were spectacular. you are the best commentator never to commentate on a world cup final. if i win the lottery i will pay you handsomely to follow me around 24 hours and commentate on my life. you and kim basinger got me through my adolescence. :box:

Joe Allon

Isn't he taking his George Formby tribute act around the northern clubs?

Joe Allon

Sorry but for £275k in Div 1, he was not a good signing. Scored 6 league goals in 17 appearances that season but 3 of those were penalties.

Our alternative was Stan Collymore who Holder decided against. He went to Southend (no better than us overall) for £170k, scored shedloads of goals and was sold to Forest for millions.

Allon was passably ok in Div 2 & was a character, but in truth he didn't do that well for us at the level we bought him for.
