Brentford have completed the signing of Ecuadorian winger César Joel Valencia Castillo for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old completed a medical in West London late yesterday, Tuesday 30 July, and officially joined The Bees today, subject to international clearance. Joel Valencia – as he is best known – joined Brentford from Gliwicki Klub Sportowy Piast Gliwice, the current champions of Poland, and has signed a four-year contract.

Joel spent the past two years with Piast Gliwice and, last season, helped them win the national title for the first time. His performances in a variety of attacking midfield roles earned him the Polish Player of the Year award. He scored six goals in 33 games last term, contributing a similar number of assists.

I've seen several games of Piast Gliwice last season and I can say that...actually no I am lying, I don't know much about him. I usually base how good a signing is on how they fill in the sentence of 'We are _______ to have him at the club.' Rasmus went with 'pleased', which is a 'happy but not overwhelmed' sort of response. They describe his skills very well though, so in my opinion he'll be one who can offer exciting traits but they may require bedding in to settle in properly. Fortunately it does add more depth to an area where realistically we need it (a true promotion pushing squad needs this depth in case of injuries etc). So hopefully will be interesting.
