Depends really on whether you're going on a position to be able to compare past players. Each have their own merits.

Terry Hurlock, Terry Evans, Dean Holdsworth, Marcus Gayle, Michael Turner, Jordan Rhodes, Andy SInton etc etc To say the 'best ever'............lets see

Not talking about merits I talking about sheer class, if that's the best you can come with I rest my case :D

John Bostock

Best player I have ever seen in a Brentford shirt :)

I'd give it until the end of the month but on pure talent you may well be right.

Brentford have had lots of good players, many of whom who have picked up international honours.

I can see this lad playing for England in the latter stages of a World Cup - he's that good.

Brentford have never had a player like that in my time watching them.

Whilst I part agree with you comments I am sure a certain Mr Rhodes with his perfect hatrick vs Shrewsbury and his consistency until his injury would disagree

Agree Jordan is good, but he's not in the same league as JB.

Nor mine, he just glides through the game and makes it all look so easy, that is the sign of a special sportsman :sorted:

John Bostock

This must be the best debut performance i have seen in my 30 years of supporting the bees!! Bostock oozed confidence and his first touch killed the ball. He was class. Hard to believe he is only 17. Lets hope we can keep him for the season. Last player i saw score direct from a corner was Stan Bowles!!

:imwith:

Always a good sign when a player can run with the ball (perfectly under control) with his head up looking for an option

John Bostock

I have to agree with most of you. I said to my 12 yr old today, who was lucky enough to see Jordan score a hatrick for the Bees, that this year, we've seen playing for the Bees, a future Premiership centre forward and today we've seen a guy who scored 2 for us who if he stays injury free and remains level headed will be centre midfield at the 2018 World Cup for England. He really looks that much a cut above.

He was a joy to watch. He just seemed to have so much time on the ball. Outstanding.

I agree with the poster who advised people to get down & watch him whilst we have the chance.

it's good to think that the most talented footballer
in the entire division is wearing a brentford shirt

John Bostock

He was a different class. Not sure what some supporters on here expect from a 17 year old but in my book he was worth the entry money alone.

They expect him to carry us to the Champions League, and sort out the banking Crisis within the next 48 hours. Should he fail, the GPG will come down on him and AS like a Ton of Bricks.

I did the hospitality package today, as a reward for reaching 50! As you would imagine John won the 'man of the match' award and came to meet the fans after being interviewed by both Sky & the radio. I must say that I hope this lad goes far, he was so very levelled headed, happy to sign autographs and says all the right things fans want to hear.
I actually walked out of the ground with him, wishing him all the best for a brilliant career, but couldn't pursuade him to sign for us with the £20 I had in my pocket!!

John Bostock

I don't mean he's not a good player, just he wasn't amazing today. He drifted in and out of the second half when we favoured Weston as the outlet ball and I don't think right wing suited him. He's probably best in the middle but I can't see us playing him there.

:imwith:

There's no doubting Bostocks talent but I think we've been starved of such ability for such a long time and subsequently he stood out even more.
For me, the best thing about him was that he seemed to inspire confidence in his team-mates and Brentford really raised their game as a result.
I was surprised to hear on Radio London that he had two good feet but it appeared to me that he favoured his left a bit too much and was always looking to cut in rather than go around an opponent. However, I stand to be corrected on this.

The best player we've ever seen at Brentford? Er....perspective please.
The best debut for the last ten years? Almost certainly.

Also, I heard Bostock on the radio after the game as I was driving home. He came across as very likeable and extremely level headed. Combine that with his natural talent and we really do have a star in the making. Let's just hope that the parasites steer well clear and that Redknapp can give him the nuturing and a guidance that's required.

Jonjo who?

A very good debut and it is a joy to see a player who has time on the ball plus ability and a footballing brain long may he stay at GP.

However he is only 17 and will have good games and bad games so to say he is teh best for many years may be slightly over the top however on yesterdays showing he looked more comfortable on teh ball than any other player and would hate to see what he and Harris might do this league!!

This is a great signing god alone knows how the power brokers managed this but its a great feather in the cap for AS and if we can have an extended loan period both Bostock and Brentford will benefit.

John Bostock

Hopefully Scotty is on the phone to Harry now begging or the loan to be extended until the end of the season!
It was a pleasure to watch him in the first half, was a little quite in the second half but that was inevitable as we were defending more. I cannot wait to see him play again, I think his presence seemed to lift the home team & the home suppot which is unbelievable for a 17 year old.

John Bostock

Sorry if i am " miles " but can he play tomorrow ?

John Bostock

No mate playing for England

Isn't there also a rule regarding players signed before a replay but after the original tie that would have ruled him out?

John Bostock

If I was Scotty I wouldn't play him even if he was elligble. Far too valuable to Spurs and far too valuable to us. We can beat Gateshead at home without him thanking you please :)

John Bostock

I think this is correct, althought irrelevant in this case as he is on Intl under 19 duty.

John Bostock

For a 17 year old he was excellent. Would love to see him centre midfield but he would probably get clattered. A good opening game!

Have read four posts of yours and they are all tripe! You can not have been watchin the same game as me.

In forty years of watchin the Bees only one player comes even close and that is Sir Stanley. Merson was good, I loved Rowlands on his debut and Andy Sinton went on to good things after a slow start.

That was the best debut performance I have seen ever anywhere let alone GP.
As for not being big enough for centre midfield you are having a giraffe.
He IS all left foot, sorry wand! He IS NOT a winger. His strength on the ball was there for all to see. He WANTS the ball all the time and Foster in particular did not want to give it to him as he appeared to have a man on!
Under normal circumstances I would agree but this kid is the next Paul Gasgoine and he will start Saturday in centre midfield if AS has any brains.
KOC back to full back on Sat and or out on the right or simply drop Beano or even Ben Strevens, it does not matter as long as this kid starts in the centre and we need to get him on the ball often and quickly.

If he plays for 50 minutes and drifts in and out for forty we will not lose! I will be happy with that for the next three games.

John Bostock

I actually thought he was more useful on the wing as he had a licence to drift inside. Starting him centre mid means space will be at a premium. Thought KOC had a great game Saturday, mainly due to the fact he swept up and was then able to offload it to Bean, Weston or Bostock, who all gave us an attacking threat.

John Bostock

Does anyone know if he is training with us full time or does he train with Spurs then link up with us towards the end of the week like I believe Wilson does?

John Bostock

I loved Rowlands on his debut

3-0 Mansfield opening day, did he score? I think he came on as sub too, and just took everyone's breath away. I was stunned at how good he was and turned a mate and said "Jesus, he's going to end up going for a £million"

John Bostock

l'm interested to learn the secret of loan deals. AS and our excellent bean counters carried us to a title last year with some terrific loan deals through the spine of the team. John Bostock is another tremendous loan as is Wilson. AS appears significantly better at bringing in loan deals than acquisitions. Why is that?

John Bostock

Have read four posts of yours and they are all tripe! I'm glad you find them informative,

You can not have been watchin the same game as me......er yes i did.

In forty years of watchin the Bees only one player comes even close and that is Sir Stanley. Merson was good, I loved Rowlands on his debut and Andy Sinton went on to good things after a slow start. Again, comparing players from yesteryear to now is impossible, all players have their own merits, IMO Bostock was one of the best i've seen too, but others in varying positions had good debuts too. You've mentioned a couple. But all midfielders.

That was the best debut performance I have seen ever anywhere let alone GP. You don't get to see many games then.

As for not being big enough for centre midfield you are having a giraffe. I did not say that, i said he "would probably get clattered" in centre midfield as a marked man, Harry Redknapp would take him straight back to spurs if that happened.

He IS all left foot, sorry wand! He IS NOT a winger. AS is a manager of a football team, i can see why you manage a Pub, I drink in the Princess, after your written sh*te here, i won't be again.

His strength on the ball was there for all to see. He WANTS the ball all the time and Foster in particular did not want to give it to him as he appeared to have a man on! Really, i'd never had guessed

Under normal circumstances I would agree but this kid is the next Paul Gasgoine and he will start Saturday in centre midfield if AS has any brains. Blimey, get on the blower 'Paul' and have a word in AS's ear. I bet your coaching badges will pull some weight with Andy.

KOC back to full back on Sat and or out on the right or simply drop Beano or even Ben Strevens, it does not matter as long as this kid starts in the centre and we need to get him on the ball often and quickly. If some numpty from Walsall clatters the sh*te out of Bostock, as i said above, Harry will take him back. He's just come back from injury too.

If he plays for 50 minutes and drifts in and out for forty we will not lose! I will be happy with that for the next three games.

Hello Paul.

John Bostock

Hello Paul.

I love the bit about you drinking in the Princess Royal but wont be again!
I have been there three years and you have yet to introduce yourself but you do seem someone who prefers to be :computer:.
Maybe you were wondering if I had a long memory or not:fishing: In your case I definately have so disappointed you wont be popping in again!

laters

Why is he more likely to get clattered in central midfield? If the opposition want to clatter him, they'll do it regardless of where he's playing. The question is, where would he be most effective. I believe from what I've read that central midfield is his usual position, and it would be intersting to see him start there. After all, hasn't everyone been saying for ages that central midfield is one of our biggest problems?

Your interest will be rewarded on Sat!

Hey maybe AS might even say lets play 4-3-3 and push Weston and Taylor out wider and up top with just Charlie in the middle and KOC, Beano and Zinedine Bostock behind Charlie!

He was very good indeed but I feel you are going somewhat over the top in your suggestion that potentialy it was THE BEST DEBUT. Please get real I agree he was head and shoulders above any other Brentford player however at present that is not difficult.

He shows intelligence, ball control added to a desire to get involved and therefore he will I have no doubt have a great footballing future but please lets get real the poor lad is only 17 and will without doubt have some bad games and good, he is young and learning his craft. The fact that he has ability will hold him in good stead but please lets not put the weight of the season on his young houlders.

Lets all enjoy it whilst he plays and hope that the rest of the team can learn fom his example but please dont put to much pressure on him and break him!!

Trust me this kid is footballing GOLD and can handle the pressure IMO

If he was Irish or Scotish or Welsh he would be in the National Squad!

John Bostock

The exceptional raw talent is there to see but no doubt he needs some refinement and discipline in his play, maybe that is why Spurs have lent him to us at this level and under AS. Early burn out/ injury for kids at this age and with such talent is a real threat, Palace fans cries that he would have played 150 first team games for them already had he stayed says it all....

His positional play was a bit wayward at times and so was his defending as well as twice seemingly tackling his own team mates....hardly surprising given his age and youthful desire to create something every time he got the ball. I am sure he will benefit from first team action when every game counts and what matters is the team not the individual.

My guess is Spurs want him developed so they can start to ease him into the first team maybe later this season with next season earmarked for his real coming of age.

John Bostock

God, I can't wait to see this lad! Typical that I had to miss the game (broken wrist, taking time to type this!) But lets cut him massive slack. He can't carry the whole team, he's young and perhaps may not play that well for us again. My boy is in the under 14 side, and you get some amazing performances one week(not from him!), and nearly nothing the next, it's part of being so young. However I get the feeling he is so very special, this might not apply so let's enjoy him while we have him.

This was an amazing coup to get him in the first place, I'm stunned and very impressed with the BFC management.

I agree. Nothing like heaping pressure on a 17 year old if you read these posts!! Great signing and thank goodness AS has addressed the glaring weakness in midfield.. Let's see how Bostock copes now that the word's out. I'm sure teams will look after him. Millwall weren't prepared.

Talking to a work colleague today - Alex Inglethorpe is a key cog in this wheel, this guy is a friend of Alex's and says Inglethorpe is given much a free reign in charge of the Spurs Youth side with 'Arry having final say on loan moves, but he told us that with Clive Allen out of the way, Inglethorpe is all for blooding Spurs' youngsters on Loan to Championship or L1 clubs to progess.
Suits them and is a massive coup for us. Having good rapport with people like Inglethorpe must be the way forward. Well done Scotty and the scouting/contacts team.:sorted:

Did anyone hear that ***** Adrian Durham on Talksport. Apparantly we are cheating having Bostock playing for us as he should be playing in the Championship at least as he is too good for League 1. He thinks the league should have stepped in & not allowed the transfer. He really is a grade 1 ginger c**t
