One of my stand out times supporting our great club. Doc is a true Bees legend and the train journey back from Cardiff that Saturday evening will live forever in my memory.

I'm not sure about the health issues referred to earlier in this thread, but I saw that John Docherty was back at Millwall a couple of months back to receive an award to mark his achievements as Millwall manager. The article showed some photos of him receiving his award on the pitch and then parading before the crowd with his former players Les Briley and Jimmy Carter after which 'Doc' was the guest speaker in the hospitality lounge, doing a Q&A session. So although he's 76 now, it looks like he's doing okay?

Mark Saggers (who I generally despise) told a nice story about him on talksport the other day,
As a young cub reporter on the local Cambridge paper he was invited onto the team us for an away game, Docherty called him over to sit down, he said "as you're just starting out I'll give you a bit of advice...."
Saggers prepared to be told that what happens on the bus stays on the bus etc so was surprised to be told....
"Son, get the biggest mortgage you possibly can, you won't go wrong"

Happy 81st birthday Doc. It’s about time we showed more appreciation for the older legends while they are with us. Still don’t understand while he has not been inducted into the Bees Hall of Fame. Shocking really.

I also played against Greenford Greenvale in a friendly at GP and Alan Hawley reffed . I was playing for Viking Sports and Billy Stagg who went on to make a first team app for the Bees was playing for Vikings.

Yes, I remember him well because we used to stand on or about the half way line in New Road, so he was pretty close for half the game. He had a good shot on him. I wonder if anyone can remember who played for the Bees round about that time on the other wing? I’ll give you a clue in that he was about the same height and he had red hair, and it wasn’t Gordon Neilson. Sadly, he’s not with us anymore.

I was speaking with someone recently about one of our Club's greatest servants, John Docherty – who served the in many different guises, at some of our most difficult times.
His record, remarkably, spreads across four decades: joined us in 1959 and played into the 1970s. A manager later in the 1970s and assistant manager in the 1980s.
Anyone have any idea what might have happened to the great man? He seems to have fallen off the radar.

A one-in-three scoring rate over his career which, for a winger, is impressive. He was unlucky to take over as manager during a troubled period at GP and in his managerial stints at Cambridge and Millwall he had great success.
