Please understand that the GPG, unlike Rupert Murdoch, is not able to afford expensive lawyers to tell us what is libellous and what is worth the money to a multi-billionaire.

Any threads on this matter will be deleted.

Trust that explains why threads have been deleted this evening. I hope everyone can respect this.

Thanks

John Terry Threads

Why not just delete the libellous comments?

John Terry Threads

a) We are not lawyers so don't know what is or isn't libellous. :thetruth:
b) Some of us have better things to do with our lives

John Terry Threads

Eh? I think it's a bit self important to imagine that the GPG matters more than a piece of sh*t to JT. JT suing a poster on the GPG would be the comedy sketch of the decade.
Really - moderating the posts of football fans unimportant opinions on an unimportant issue? It's over the top, and it should stop.
This is internet football forum, not the bloody houses of parliament.

Exactly. You can't be done for libel for what you say in the Houses of Parliament.

Also, this is a Brentford FC website, not a Chelsea FC one, nor a general football forum. I've no interest in spending my Friday evening moderating John Terry threads.

Would the law say it was the poster or the site owner who would get sued though? Do you know, or are you up for paying the legal fees to find out!?

That is that.

Boring yawn. Then don't moderate them and let people get on with talking about it. You've got some serious petty-power problems - a moderator is supposed to stop racist, sexist abuse etc. not to sh!t on other people.

John Terry Threads

Or uphold the 15 commandments. :computer:

5. The laws of libel in the UK are very harsh. You are liable for what you post. Please do not expose the board to legal risk.

John Terry Threads

I'm not interested in talking about JT, so no worry there. The GPG isn't the media, and it isn't doing any reporting. It's a message board. As long as nobody posts 'John Terry has sex with cat' on the news wire then I think we'll do just fine.

Is this irony??

John Terry Threads

Nope, it's me thinking some of the moderators are self important.

John Terry Threads

They've been called worse, you may have to try harder to upset them.

John Terry Threads

:D You may be right mate.

John Terry Threads

i thought the story was that press is now free to say what they want about this innit.

:moo:

John Terry Threads

Dunno. But I think one thing can be said without any danger of liable. I got sent a picture of a lady via email today and she was PROPER fit. I would put it up here but Les hasn't taken his pills yet.

John Terry Threads

yes she is stunning mate.

what about if we refer john terry as ryan ****son and talk about it in the ryan ****son thread instead?

:dj:

John Terry Threads

I'm confused. This is a John Terry thread, but it hasn't been deleted

And surely this smilie protects us from any court action .... :fishing:

Although this smilie is just asking for it ... :sueme:

John Terry Threads

I've just read Claret Kim's post on the "Managers Sacking" thread where some pretty strong words have been said about Avram Grant. I'm not sure why that post is OK & ones re JT are not. Just asking like.

John Terry Threads

I can't see any trace of petty power problems here. Surely Banana and the other moderators also have a duty of care to do what they believe is in the best interests of the GPG?

The GPG is a medium and is covered by the laws of libel (ie whatever appears on here is deemed to be published according to the definition of law). The decision by the High Court to scrap the injunction didn't say that the media were free to publish whatever they wanted. So it still leaves the media (and therefore the GPG) open to be sued for libel.

So the choices are as follows.
1) Talk about JT and run the risk of the GPG being done (and the fact that JT may not see us as big enough to worry about is nonsense. One drop of water, maybe, but there are thousands of fan sites out there. One closure could get the others thinking twice wbout what they say. Remember, MacD's sued a small shop in Scotland for trading under the name of MacDonalds). So why put the GPG in that invidious position unless you hate the Bees?

2) Talk about it on a (for example) Fulham fansite

3) Play it safe and sensible. After all, the only folks who should bve interested in JT's private life are sad lonely folk or those who read Hello because the Sun is too high-brow.

Because I don't read every post and neither does anyone else I hope. There is a "report this post" feature alongside every post. Please use it if you find similar posts.

That stupid multi-millionaire?

Surely Banana and the other moderators

Can I be selfish for a moment? Some while back I was asked by people I'd never met if I wouldn't mind helping out with moderating the GPG and I said yeah, why not, it'll give me a feeling of self importance and the chance to boss around people much taller than myself. What can be better.

However, there is the tinsiest chance that someone might object to what's written about them on here and sue the GPG. That's not impossible - many other sites have had these kind of problems. Now I know Banana would be the main man in the frame should that happen, but if there's the chance that I could be dragged into it because I'm a moderator, I'm all for closing down that risk.

And anyway .... John Terry ffs. Who gives a toss?

John Terry Threads

.................does Ken know????.............

John Terry Threads

No, Richard O`Brien.

Every time Paul posts I get this vision of a balded lunatic prancing around. Strangely his posts don't genuinely match up to that. But it doesn't deter me.

John Terry Threads

Bearing in mind any England captain is obviously going to be an upstanding role model, etc. etc., I suggest the following statement:

"If it falls to me to start a fight to cut out the cancer of bent and twisted journalism in our country with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of British fair play, so be it. I am ready for the fight. The fight against falsehood and those who peddle it. My fight begins today. Thank you and good afternoon".

That should work.

John Terry Threads

Can we know write it up on the GPG now its all over the page of every paper in the UK and all over the world.

John Terry Threads

No. Nothing changes. It is a strange world. He may do some bulk litigation and then  will have to sell himself down the docks to pay the fines. You can PM your comments though :computer:

John Terry Threads

Can we discuss Toni Terry and how fit she is and how I'd like to throw one up her? I don't understand why these footballers stray when they've got a fittie sitting at home.

John Terry Threads

Not sure how he can do a bulk litigation as he admitted the affair in court according to the papers.

So we can't even put up a link?

John Terry Threads

Don't know. Banana is in charge :thetruth:
I am off out for the day anyway so be good :nono:

John Terry Threads

If it is all over the papers in Australia now, does that may a difference on here?

John Terry Threads

May I suggest that if you're itching to talk about this "news" story then please go and do it elsewhere. It's nothing to do with Brentford FC, I don't propose keeping myself up-to-date with what has been reported throughout the world, I've absolutely no interest in the private lives of celebrities, I've no intention of running any risk. therefore this subject will not be debated on the GPG.

How much clearer can I be?

John Terry Threads

Even Sky Sports News are saying very little.
Who is this JT that everyone is scared to talk about?.

John Terry Threads

what the hell happened to freedom of speech?????

like he gives a crap what anyone here says about him

we should be allowed to talk about want we want to talk about without the fear of being sued for what we really think

John Terry Threads

I've absolutely no interest in the private lives of celebrities unless it's Calum Best and Simon Jordan and anyone who's been to Scott's lately and did I tell you was sitting at the next table to me at The Ivy well it was......(continues for 743 celebrities)

There that's more like it.
