Joining BIAS

I hope the mods don’t mind that I’m putting this in a new thread but in light of the ongoing discussion re the offering from the club for GA ST holders, this seems like a good time to encourage Bees fans everywhere to join BIAS.

Membership is free and it looks like several fans have already signed up tonight.

Our voice is always strongest when we’re together. Get involved!

BIAS were still taking out £1 a Month from my account.

It switched to free a while ago but we were encouraged to continue to donate if we could. I donate £2 per month which was the fee when I joined. If you want to cancel your SO or DD ( don’t recall which it is) you will still be a member. I’d encourage you to keep paying if possible as I’m sure there are still running costs even in the digital age.

We don't have any other source of income so if you can afford it, we are very grateful for the donation.

How is BIAS funded if it is free membership?

Signed up last night, took barely a minute. Lets band together and make sure our voices are heard.

I trust that BIAS, whilst I may not always agree with everything they suggest, will always genuinely have the clubs best interest at heart and arent just about moaning for moaning's sake.

Done. Important that fans views are taken into account.

I think Bias will be needed more and more. Especially if we get to the promised land. Join up today, done a lot of good over the years. The battle will never be won but we as fans can make it hard for those making the decisions at the top and challenge everything that is contentious.
Is Zippy still treasurer?

Dave Minckley is treasurer at the moment and very good he is at it too.

Supes is probably the only survivor on the committee from that era.

A little bump for this thread considering the sterling work BIAS have done re refunds for ST holders.

The collective power of BIAS can only be strengthened the more people join and considering it is free to join, there is really no excuse not to get signed up.

Just wanted to thank Hobbsy and BIAS for all they have done for us this summer. We’ve had at least one fiasco a week and god knows where we would be without them doing what they do. The club owe them a massive consultancy fee!

The help Hobbsy provides on here is incredible.

Thank you to all involved.

Bump.

Together we’re stronger. 1,600 members now, a big increase from January but we need more of you and guess what it’s free!

If you do one thing today, do this, and sign your kids up too.

Your membership will really make BIAS stronger and harder to ignore

Just had a look. List of 'cookies partners' pah.
I'll stick to whining on the gpg
Did you click the link above?

Its a new website since my involvement but when i followed the above link there was nothing like that.

Maybe you visited a different BIAS' website as there are quite a few for different organisations

Question.
Prompted by the comment on the "food and drink at the Gtech" thread, and the fact that the BIAS discussion with our providers to talk about this season's offerings is taking place 2 months into the season.

Am I right in remembering that BIAS are planning to set up a series of meetings at various times in the year to pro-actively discuss important issues i.e. ticketing/prices/TAPs/food & drink etc. rather than just reacting to them, when a decision has been made by the club and they are in effect just informed?
I.e. Set up a meeting with the club to discuss ticket prices for season 2023/24 in January/February 2023, rather than after the board meeting that has made the decision......

Shouldn't take much to decide on a series of topics, and agree when they need to be raised/discussed......

The club’s MO of last year will not be repeated. We (BIAS) also need to step it up. BU need to be more than the club’s nodding dogs.

There is a commitment by the club to hold regular meetings than what we’ve been getting. We haven’t pushed massively in that direction; that’s come from them and is a very positive move.

At the end of the day, we are consulted. It’s not a negotiation. It’s important to remember the distinction.

It took me 75 minutes of barking away from one end of a long table at the last meeting, just to get the kids prices back to where they were, so don’t expect miracles.

Thanks for the reply, and good to hear that the club seem open to more regular discussion. ?
Appreciate that you and BU are 'consulted' on decisions, but is there not an opportunity for you (BIAS) to propose agenda items at the appropriate time(s) to try to avoid situations like the kids ticket prices situation even becoming a thing.....??.....
(Also appreciate that this is all done on a voluntary basis. Thank you).

I don’t share the view at all that we’ve not challenged the club on various issues this season, nor do I think our views are at odds with those of BIAS. I had hoped that our being asked by the club for our views on certain topics would be seen as a positive and indeed if there were concerns regarding mixed messages I would have thought an offline discussion between the two organisations would have been preferable to the thinly veiled public criticism. We are all working to the same goals after all.

Perhaps you can tell your secretary that at the same time.

A hastily drawn up BIAS directive tonight has advised Brentford fans not to let the club down on Boxing Day by booing Harry Kane. Surprised that they believe that they have that right to tell Brentford fans what to do if I'm honest.

BIAS is only good as the people running it...and then of course it becomes someone's agenda to spout boll**KS.

Where is this? Only thing I’ve seen is this, which hardly is a “directive”.

Joining BIAS

So it's not a directive and Bias aren't telling fans what to do.

Glad we've got that straightened out.

It’s a point of view. I didn’t see it as it was a reply to either a locked account or someone who blocked me. As far as I’m aware the twitter is the personal opinion of whoever runs the account much as GPG tweets aren’t necessarily representative of the GPG.

Im gutted weve lost and that pen went over but give it a couple of weeks and its back to brentford duties and kane is fair game for abit of stick

Two different things really.

BIAS is a democratic fans' group with elected officials. Would you go "ah yeah, that Conservative twitter account tweeting about Nazis is just the personal opinion of whoever runs the account - same as GPG tweets aren’t necessarily representative of the GPG."?

Their bio says "BIAS: We are the Brentford fans' trade union." Doesn't sound like one person's view to me.

It is, but you’re right the account ought to be clear about whether it is publishing the official view of the organisation or the personal view of the person(s) with access to the account. It did follow up the tweet I linked to by saying something about Brentford being in England, while “forgetting” at least one committee member is not English and a number live abroad.

and represents a material number of non-English Brentford fans.

When i was chair of BIAS, i never offered a public opinion, simply becuase BIAS is a committee and my views are my own.

Id often refrain from posting on the GPG and i would often just listen to fans views in debates becuase it was there views that i wanted to reflect in committee meetings.

However, the BIAS twitter feeds needs to interact, it needs to have followers and those with access to the password need to be trusted.

In my opinion, the BIAS tweets initially mentioned are fine as they promote the club (an aim of BIAS) in a good light and are therefore 'within policy'

AB is also right though with his observation. The problem is though that it is often hard to remember if you are logged in to your own personal Twitter Account, or that of an organisation.

Personally, i dont think we should boo Kane. Its a big responsibility to take a penalty and even we must accept that one day our Toney will even miss from the spot.

The GPG tweet with the rugby posts at the Gtech made me laugh becuase it was funny... the tweet suggesting that we sing # He would have scored both, he would have scored both, Ivan Toney, he would have scored both.... is fine becuase its suppoorting our player.

The BIAS tweets are fine becuase we shouldnt bully or villify a player who tried his best to represent our country
