Jon Parkin

Reading bee has just mentioned the name of John Parkin as a striker to consider.

What a great suggestion!

Bring "The Beast" to Griffin Park, please!

Will he come to london? Will hecaccept 3rd division football? Can we afford him?

What a boost and fillip to our season that would be!

That would be brilliant. He is just what we need. He's the sort of player the Bees faithful would love to see in the stripes. :sorted:

Jon Parkin

Although it would help, I bracket him in the Alexander/Donaldson mould. I would like a pacey striker to give us an option of getting in behind teams

Jon Parkin

Saw Parkin play for Cardiff earlier this season. Big, bit of control and like his pies. Cardiff use him as an impact player, in all senses of the word.

Jon Parkin

It would be nice to think so but UR's comments last week would suggest that this is a mere pipedream.

Jon Parkin

I wouldn't describe him as a prolific goalscorer, but then I suppose if he was, he wouldn't be available on loan.

Jon Parkin

That's it, let's bring in a fat man to the team. I'd go the opposite way and sign a small and fast player, not a Tall fat man :)

Jon Parkin

It would liven things up shouting Beeeeeast when he trundles onto the pitch...crap player though

Jon Parkin

I once carried him from the pitch when he broke his leg whilst at Hull. And yes, he is exactly as heavy as he looks.

Jon Parkin

Why when I think of large bulky forwards that the vision of Neil Shipperly comes into my mind!
I beginning to cold sweat....

So do I, but the difference is in the age I guess. Shipperley was 33/34 when he signed for us, Parkin is 29. Shipperley would have done a good job for us if he had signed at 29 IMHO.

............probably.............

The caterer's would run out of pies........................................! (which might not be a bad thing) :sorted:

If Parkin is a pipedream what hope

I hope that Parkin would be a consideration or any proven forward not getting a start that may be prepared to move with the parent club footing some of the wage bill. I think what NLB meant was that while he may be a good shout, UR has come out and said that the injuries this season have forced him to divert funds that may have been available for a striker elsewhere. I still pray that we might be able to get in a new forward this week and that UR is working under the radar, we can but hope.

Jon Parkin

How did this thread get started?
It's not as if we've actually been linked with him.

Lewis Grabban

...talking of strikers.....anyone else noticed that Lewis Grabban is League 2 leading goal scorer at the moment???

Really? No!! What have we done?

I bet they've got better physios than us too :(

Ps any chance of a reply to some posts on another thread? Something about injuries and physios etc etc.

:banghead:

?????....... **** *** You Prat.

what we did is probably waste time and money (wages) with harry forrester and grella, when we could have kept Grabban.

i'd like to see him back as a squad player thats all (since we clearly need more goals)....hence pointing out he's leading scorer in league two....you cant hide from that.....also in one of the sheffield papers he is linked with both Sheff Utd and Wednesday.

The rest of your post....had nothing to do with what i said about Grabban.

Clearly you've had a long tough day at work....or a retired old git whose going a bit senile?

You need to calm down mate....the mention of Grabban cant drive you that mad

Jon Parkin

oh and dont waste your time with another stupid post as im off on holiday now and probably won't ever read whatever you might reply.

All the best for the game bees i'll be keeping my eye on it from a far.

Jon Parkin

We don't need any more squad payers, we need players better than the ones we have in the squad; first choice players.

I must admit I thought Chipfatterly was a bit lighter than that when he signed!

Jon Parkin

Parkin is just what we need, we have enough fancy footballers with decent touches, we need a bit more nasty and steel with a few goals thrown in, he'd make a fair few chances for others with his awkwardness.

I think you'll find Wanderer has a facial hair phobia, this is the real reason he dislikes young Grabban.
With regards to him becoming senile, I think you'll find as it is the month of November and most people are sporting a Movember 'tash he is a little on edge at the moment as a result of it...

Impressive start to the post though...:sorted:

Febian Brandy is a free agent as far as I'm aware - quick as stink

There is a number like him out there and yes he would certainly do a job especially in our developement set up.There is a lad down at Bognor called Jason Prior who has attracted the attention of a few scouts lately.

Yeah it's crap! I know, as I've been told enough times.

I've taken the post from "oldbee66" to heart and I will not be posting on the GPG again. I think I need to grow up. :(

I have no excuse for my behaviour, growing a 'tache is not a reason or being 'senile' or for being plain boring, I apologise.

Now, the libellous accusation that our physios are not qualified and are at fault, I think needs an answer. Also, we bloody well know Grabban is scoring goals, as its been rammed down our throats on here, along with CM's goal exploits. :banghead:

Thanks for reading.

:backtotopic:

As for Jon Parkin, mmmmm I'm not so sure, but then if Steve Howard was an option from Leicester, I think Parkin would be a better option of the two! :sorted:

I don't think the mods like me either, anyone else and that post would've been deleted and the abuser banned for life for calling me a '**** **** prat'

I reckon Steve Howard would bring more to the party if he was available

Parkin is about five years younger.
Personally, I'd choose Howard for this season, but I don't think he will want to drop down a division. Both he and Schlupp came on as subs on Sunday and I reckon Howard in particular will figure in Nigel Pearson's plans there.
Is Parkin good in the air?

and about five stone heavier! Kettle pot black blah blah blah I think Shipperley probably weighed less than Parkin currently does!

Jon Parkin

Parkin is a colossus , a battering ram of a forward if you were to ever know one. He could do a decent job at this level if kept and made fit.

Jon Parkin

I think I must have missed something here!
Grabban is top league 2 scorer ; Rhodes is top league 1 scorer ; Mark Phillips is putting a fair few in for Southend and Charlie is doing the same for MK Dons.
3 of the 4 were seen as surplus to requirements but all 4 were players who possessed more than "brute force" to get their goals.
I thought Uwe was getting the plaudits for trying to develop our play by resisting the urge to "play hoof ball".
IMOP I don't think Parkin is the answer - he might be able to ruffle defenders but - but he isn't pacey and his ball control isn't great either (and I saw him at York quite a few times as proof).
And even if people disagree with my negative profile of him - at best we would get the old "Shipperley" scenario with the big ball hit up to him .
Didn't we have some sort of consensus when Scott left that we were prepared to see our team lose games if they played the game in a more entertaining/skilful way and gave it their all?
Parkin would be a retrograde step. Uwe was a forward himself at a high level - I can't see him being desperate enough to resort to this sort of player.

Jon Parkin

ps
If you are wanting "big, brutal, awkward buggers" to upset centre backs we could always go for Delroy Facey or Akinfenwa or Izale McLeod!! ...only joking!

Don't quote me but I heard Howard was on obscene money at Leicester- £15k a week was the figure. If true doubt we'd be able to offer more than 10% contribution even if he did want to come. Parkin is a better bet and still rated, very difficult to mark and knows where the net is. Not sure what ROB knows and if he's become fatter and unfit but he's never been small and sure Cardiff monitor their first team squads fitness.

Very true but it would be amusing watching him and Gary Alexander playing together I'm sure some defenders would have nightmares for months. I can't believe some teams were prepared to pay him a supposed 9 grand a week!!!!

All the points you make are fair and you've obviously seen Parkin in the flesh albeit done while ago.

The only point I would make is that needs must and the problem is that all our attractive football doesn't currently have an end product often enough. Huddersfield play very good football but still have a big old unit in Alan Lee up front that takes the pressure off Rhodes.
I don't know whether Parkin is even on the radar, it seems to be pure speculation but gathering momentum so who
knows but can't see UR instructing us to go hoofball if we add a twinkle toed big man up front. It maybe that he can help bring out the best in either Clayton or Mike Grella,
can't see us playing him and GA up front though.

I think he's come a long way since York and he did a very
good job at both Stokeand Preston and Cardiff thought he was good enough for a side challenging for the
Premiership.
Anyway it's probably immaterial but let's hope whoever we end up with provides us with a goal threat.

Tottenham youth team had a striker that would fit the bill two seasons ago who must now be in their reserves. Big Scandinavian type.
Also young Philliskirk at Chelsea would be a good aquisition imo to do exactly for Donaldson what Lee does for Rhodes.
