Jonny Wilkinson

He needs to change his game, he can't keep trying to take head on the monsters in the other teams forwards. Very brave man but foolhardy.

Jonny Wilkinson

The most over rated rugby player in Rugby Union EVER.............FACT!!!!

Jonny Wilkinson

Name me a Welshman who's scored the winning points in a World Cup Final, then! :)

Anyway, we have Danny Cipriani to take over.

Cipriani is a much better player than Wilkinson.....and Italian of course

Actually Cipriani scares the sh*t out of me and could be a true world-class player

Jonny Wilkinson

More over rated than Gavin Henson????? :fishing:

JUST!!!! :D

Actually Henson is a good player but decided to go all Beckham on us and seems to enjoy the limelight of the bars and clubs of London (and the train journeys back home). Henson at his prime was better than Wilkinson. I am not saying that Wilkinson is a *bad* player but the hype that surrounds him (even on the GPG) is incredible. Sadly, another injury for Wilkinson is probably good for English international rugby.

So should we have called you Beckham then before you disappeared to Hong Kong ?

As if I had talent lol

And, besides, there is a pub in London that I do NOT frequent ;)

Jonny Wilkinson

I thought your comment was laughable.....that's all

Taking Wilkinsons injuries into account its amazing he didnt call it a day 2 years ago. Who knows how good he could have been if he'd stayed injury free..but he has a big heart and has made challengs other fly halfs wouldn't have considered and paid the price.

Anyway, Im off to bed, so we'll have to continue later. Have a good day.

Jonny Wilkinson

He is the greatest kicker EVER....FACT.
Kicks win World Cups tournaments FACT (you wouldn't know this yet 'nana)
He's about the toughest fly half you'll see...he might not be a Dan Carter but he might haave run him close if he'd stayed injury free.

Right OK.

I might have done too if I had done this and done that. This wasn't a "might" conversation. It was dealing in FACTS. Wilkinson is the most over-rated player in the history of Rughy Union.....EVER. (Well except for Bill Beaumont :) )

At last, some sense for my Far East friend :sorted:

Ha ha, thats a good one even for you. Have a look at his points scoring record for England and at club level.

I didn't say he was crap. I said that he was the most overrated player in the world.

This is like the Princess Royal thread all over again :(

1) No one is saying you said he was crap

2) Overrated by whom? I think most people have always been realistic about him. What you fail to seem to appreciate is that he kicks goals to win matches & World Cups when others wouldn't.

3) This has nothing to do with a bitter argument between two people (like the PR thread)...that, in all honesty, IMHO (sorry nana) but I think ROB is winning two sets to one at the moment :fishing:

Jonny Wilkinson

2) everyone except me on this thread for a start; most of England for follow-up

3) I only deal in facts. You know that. I don't get bitter :)

Jonny Wilkinson

Wilkinson is an exceptional rugby player. Not THE best, but up there, and as I know Banana does know his rugby,I can only suggest that he doesn't rate him because he is English...

which is just sad :(

Jonny Wilkinson

You could argue that Wilkinson was the most effective fly half of his time who fitted very well into England's style of play that won them the World Cup but I can see Banana's point a bit. He does not have the ball skills and vision which the likes of Phil Bennett, Barry John, Mark Ella, Grant Fox, Jonathan Davies or even dare I suggest Stuart Barnes, had.

However, as a complete package, if you add his kicking and defensive qualities to what he does have, he's pretty fecking good but I reckon he falls in the Rob Andrew class, not in with the greats.

Danny Cipriani could end up as the real deal though in terms of skills with the ball in hand from the little I've seen of him.

Jonny Wilkinson

the rest of the world always feared Wilkinson, doesn't that say something?

:eek::eek::eek:

Les, I'm shocked....Rob Andrew isn't fit to lace JW's boots, as they say - Wilkinson had more to his game in both defence and attack, Andrew was good at kicking for touch...(nice drop goal against the Aussies once though)

Dan Carter is the modern day all rounder, no weaknesses really, and he doesn't even get a mention from you:(

3a? Do I?:D
3b mmm:confused::)

Anyway Ciprianni got through 51 mins last night and he is the future, JW can never scale the heights he did again.

I don't " overrate " him, i just think he is a very good player. You don't have his point scoring record and not be rated.

Jonny Wilkinson

If I was Wilkinson I'd hang up my boots now, do the after-dinner speech circuit, dine out for free on 'that kick', meet loads of laadeeez and keep my weight off that knee.

Sorted :sorted:

:imwith:

Jonny "one kick" wilkinson.

And Les sums up his relative place - he would be stamped "reject" in the Outside Half factory. Les did forget to mention Dan Carter though who *is* a world-class player

Jonny Wilkinson

One kick Wilkinson? He's the leading points scorer in test rugby and recorded the highest individual total in a test with 18 points? International Player of the Year for 2002 and voted the Players’ Player of 2003 by the Professional Rugby Players’ Association.

So great that he has only won two trophies and then each one only once :zzzzz:

As for kicking 6 goals - that just shows the type of game England play. Also he scored 27 points against Scotland - are they a test nation. To hammer home my point the leading points scorers in International Rugby are Hong Kong, that does not make them the best.

I say young man, you've put yourself to sleep.

Anyway, two's a lot better than none.

Just imagine how many points and trophies he'd have playing Hong Kong's schedule! :bound: :bound::bound::bound: ;):)

Jonny Wilkinson

That was 6 (six) years ago........

So what? He is being measured in this thread in comparison with Phil Bennett, Barry John, Mark Ella, Grant Fox, Jonathan Davies and Stuart Barnes who played years before that.

Which of these has or will Henson achieve in this or any other life?

Jonny Wilkinson

What would he want to win them. I am sure Henson said "When I grow up I want to be a rugby player and win a trophy that gets presented at a dinner party"

By you and only you !!

Jonny Wilkinson

I am not over-rating him, that is for sure :)

Jonny Wilkinson

Nope you are saying it is FACT, only fact in your Eyes !

Facts are.... he is Worlds Highest point scorer in international Rugby, and Highest Points scorer in World Cup and Only man to 2 Score IN 2 World cup finals, has the record for number of drop goals

And Hong Kong are the highest points scorers in international rugby. Does that make them the best ever?

Pony argument

I have never said he is not a very good player - just that he is over-rated and posts like yours confirm it :sorted:

As has been said before Banana, only over rated by you, in that he is "over rated". Most people have sound perspective of his quaities, merits and worth. You are building him up to knock him down in your own level of..err "rating".
