Just called my Gillingham mate (he might not be still after Monday ?!) and he said the Gills fans love him (it was 5 years ago though) cos he helped to get them promoted.
The winning goal at Wembley got them promoted the last time they went up.
They used to call him 'Bambi', cos he is all legs and very tall. Not the quickest of players, not graceful, but holds the ball up well and distributes (or he used to do 5 years back anyhow)

I don't think the signing of Lewis has anything to do with Hutch and Dobbo. MA has recently said how happy he was with them both. I think it is more to do with Jo Keenan, who hasn't cut it. If he had, we wouldn't have had to have signed another midfielder

This kind of thing really gets on my nerves, like people who constantly slag off a player no matter what he does, seems the lastest target is Fitz, maybe now it will move onto Lewis. When you start slagging him off before he plays for us it becomes blind criticism. Give him a chance, i have confidence that Martin knows what he is doing, remember Jamie Lawrence from last season, similar type of signing and did well for us. Lets see what he can do, everyone knows we need a midfielder.

We gambled on oli, it didnt work which is a great shame but why put ourselves even further in the financial mire surely the money would be better off being used to safeguard the long term future of the club (if we have one....?

Junior Lewis was signed "on a short term contract" after not accepting a 1 year contract renewal at Hull City in the summer and returning South, playing a match for Edgware Town before joining BFC - I doubt that this is costing us more than a modest wage, although he may win a better contract if he does well.

I'm sure that he willl relish a game against his old club - Gillingham!

I'm not sure how saving a few weeks wages will "safeguard the long term future of the club".

This is a small gamble to strengthen the weakest part of the team; in the light of Oli's unfortunate injury, MA's "... Ricky Newman's still having problems with his knee which is obviously a concern to me" and Dobbo being historically injury prone. If he enables us to gain points we may have lost, stay in the top positions and draw some more attendees to GP, then it will be well worth it. This seems to me to be a good way to safeguard the future of BFC, within the powers of MA and his budget.

I don't think this is gambling too much. I would've thought that we'll be saving some money on Oli by not paying out in bonuses, which I thought was a big part of our wage packages. Being top means bigger crowds which will also alleviate any addiotnal funds.

Have to agree that i was hard pressed to recall any involvement he had in the game during the 70 mins he was on the pitch yet when Dobbo came on he got stuck in and was fully involved, a midfield please of Newman and Dobbo as i have not seen any other players worthy of playing in that role,

By the way what happened to the "new" Eddie H i had heard so much about???? could see little change to the old ineffective player of earlier.

You won't get any from me, I cant see anything in the bloke either. Having said that he is clearly MAs sort of player. Doesn't create anything at all but runs his heart out for 90 minutes even if the game is passing him by. Lewis seemed to be in a similar mould today although given he's featured in 4 promotion winning teams he presumably has something that a bit more match fitness might deliver. We'll see.

Dobbo came on and added that bit of bite which it needed to get the others in the team going again. very difficult to pick a better side. With EH and Dobbo in midfield in other matches, it hasn't looked very creative either. so MA will have to get on with what he's got. end of. !!!!

sorry, this is where your argument falters, budget spent/blown/gambled on players already in squad. no money left = NO MONEY LEFT even for a "modest wage" (what part of none, zip, nada, zero, nowt equates to must get another player? ) Sorry MA is not safe guarding the LONG term future of the club and if it means he wont stick around then goodbye (and i for one dont think he will and when the opportunity arises to go/hawk himself eslewhere (expect heresy comments to follow)) we will be even worse off.

Its hot?! You're right, cant believe we expected a pro footballer to play well in the sun. It was the same for all the players.

Im not judging him on one game, but todays performance was diabolical. Did bugger all.

I'm prepared to give him a chance, although his whole demenour did not look like a professional athlete, as well as needing at least three touches to get a ball under control following a two yard pass to him.
We also still do not know how long his short term contract is, will he be match fit by the time it ends.
