Keith Cassells

Taken from Wikipedia:

'Whilst playing for Brentford it was rumoured that Keith once hit the floodlights with a shot at goal'

Does anyone remember this?

Anyone can change that page to say....... "Keith once hit the moon with a shot at goal" - Basically, some of the stuff on there is bull*%£$. :sorted:

I'm sure I saw him score four goals for Mansfield once.

EDIT: April 1984 at Edgeley Park. But wiki says he was a Brentford player at the time.

I remember he played a good part in our 6-0 win against Newport in the Freight Rover cup which was 1985.

I can only assume I'm wrong. Oh well.

He went in goal for Mansfield at Griffin Park. There were four goals in the game. Were you there?

"It was rumoured" - brilliant. Doesn't even say it happened!

Hitchcock got sent off with 3 others.. Bates running the full length of the field lol

Keith Cassells

Didn't he go on to become a high ranking policeman?

One of the best #oldBrentford days at Griffin Park :sorted:

One of the best games I ever saw. It was the only way we were going to get anything out of the game that day. Always makes me laugh when pundits say sendings off ruin games - utter tosh. 9 v 9 was fantastic entertainment!

yep, we were losing 2-1 at that time.. can anyone remember who scored our 2nd lol I can..

i do remember four players being sent off,.. almost a riot, because the ref sent two bees players off first, then sent off two mansfield players, one being their keeper,, with no keeper on the bench, rosie went in goal

Colin Lee scored the late equaliser I reckon.
Remember being amazed Bliss was still on the pitch with 4 sent off

Lee was dismissed with Bates.

Cassells made an excellent save from Sinton. Don't recall our 2nd scorer...

It was Bliss. Also remember Cassells made a good save from a Sinton free kick with virtually the last kick of the game

Not sure if sergeant is high-ranking!

He was with the Hertfordshire Constabulary and, in my previous career, I often used to see him at the football briefings for the police officers before Watford's home matches. Considering he played for Watford, I used to wonder what reaction he got from their supporters when he was stood outside the ground in uniform!

Haha, apologies, thought he went a lot higher!

And missed a penalty.

Mainly due to most of 'The Oak' hanging onto the back of the net at the time.
Can't really complain as I was one of them.

I remember Rosie was a bit like a Gladstone Small but with no hair. We used to call him Quassie in those non PC days.

Yes mate for some reason I always remember we heard Andy Sinton afterwards practically boasting to a journalist that he'd headbutted someone and the journo said "I'll just say 'retaliated'".

This was the game that got me hooked as a 10 year old Bees fan, never looked back...I remember the Cassells save vividly

I remember that game pretty well. It was quite unusual to see a player sent off then so to see four taking the long walk was extraordinary.

Keith Cassells

He scored a cracking winner for us up at Bradford in the early 80's. He ran along the little side stand we were in giving high 5's to everyone...

A tad lively after that game as well...............

didn't bates and lee get sent off first then mansfield players went next? the roar was brilliant...

Keith Cassells

Didn't realised he used to play for Saints. He is on ITV4 right now playing for them with Channon and Keegan etc v Liverpool. 1-1 atm.

Keith Cassells

He was known as Rosie. Decent player for us, was sorry to see him go. Remember his treble at Bournemouth in a three nil win just after Fred Callaghan left.

Keith Cassells

Didn’t he score a hat trick when we beat Exeter 7.0 or 7.1 away, last game of the season maybe.

I am sure the big thing was he never scored at GP, got plenty away but missed a shed load at home but then joined Bradford or something and scored at GP in his first game back

He got two that day, the first one broke the net and the ref initially disallowed it thinking it had gone wide until the lino intervened. He scored a few at home. Went to Mansfield after us.
