One follow up question would be, how many opposition players has he sent off in games when he’s reffed us?

He'd been fairly decent in recent games that he'd reffed for us, so we were due a shocking performance.

I remember when he was banned for several months for completely mixing up the rule when Newcastle had a penalty against Burton, but Newcastle players encroached so he awarded a free kick to Burton. Completely the wrong rule...

Anyway, he is a strong ref, but the problem with being willing to give big decisions is that you're more likely to give incorrect ones as well, which is the main problem. A lot of the time he is a good ref, but other times he just takes a strong stance on something not strong at all and completely f*cks up a game.

I just new he’d been saving himself for the end of our season. Earlier performances just lulled us into a false belief that he’d mellowed.

Never trust him....

This guys been stealing a living for years. If he was in another industry he would have been sacked a long time ago. We need, no deserve, better refs or a better system for managing games especially where the rewards are so financially huge. Stroud is making decisions that impact the careers and livelihoods of many players and managers, this inept level of performance is just not acceptable.

So in fact he's a p£$s poor ref then otherwise he would get the 'big' decisions right more often than not. A quick google of Stroud's history for monumental cock-up's might give a lie to the theory that he is a good or strong referee. Even a broken clock is right twice a day - a bit like Stroud's ability to make big calls.

In fairness (not that Stroud deserves fairness), Nelson and Wilson's red cards were the correct decisions

As much as his decision on Sunday was shocking, to play devil's advocate somewhat, I do remember his performances in our games against Stoke in the FA Cup, the 5-0 against Sheffield Wednesday and the 1-0 against West Brom shortly after the restart being absolutely fine.

I'm the last one to stand up for Stroud, but if we don't get our £170m, it's more down to our last two league games of the season than another Stroudism.

Yes, but, from memory (which is always a bit dodgy!), they were pretty easy games to ref. My gran (if she was still alive) could probably have done just as well as Stroud. As someone has already posted, the games earlier in the season that he reffed just lulled us into a false sense of security!

My money would be on Harrington and Gillett personally. KS has been up there before and was a FIFA line at one stage so has the experience already, and he's 4th up there a lot still, so I would wonder if they'd tee him up to move onto VAR like Lee Mason has?
