Ken Coote (RIP)

Ken Coote

So sorry to read that Ken Coote died on Saturday.
http://www.brentfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10421~406110,00.html

When you talk about Brentford Legends, he has got to be top of the pile, a wonderful one club player who would play anywhere for the Bees and never even got booked.

I particularly remember a goal he scored from just inside the Bees half against Millwall.

Ken Coote

Just read news of Ken's passing on official site.

He was one of the most consistent members of the team when I first started going to GP back in the late 50's, always did his work in a steady and efficient way. Driving force behind the two best teams of those times, the '57 to '59 teams that so narrowly missed out on promotion and the 62/63 fourth division champions.

Over 500 games for the Bees and never one booked.

Ken Coote (RIP)

Had the pleasure of watching Ken play in the 62/3 championship winning side - just been looking at a pic of the team - probably the best team in terms of quality the Bees have had since.

Anyway Ken was the perfect professional, good player and a nice bloke too.

A sad loss and one of the Brentford greats gone!

RIP Ken

I shall leave my usual duplicate thread thingy in respect of the passing of a Brentford Ledgend :(

Ken Coote (RIP)

I first saw Ken in 1954 and he was, and remained, a perfect gentleman on and off the pitch.

Never booked, he captained by example and as Haywarc says was an integral part of probably the best bees team I have winessed in my 50 years of following the Bees.

Thanks for the memories Ken and Rest in Peace.

Ken Coote (RIP)

I watched nearly all the career of Ken and can only reiterate the above comments vastly underated as a player and can only describe him as a gentleman both on and off the pitch having talked to him on a number of occasions both during his playing career and in the betting shop.
God rest you Ken and thanks for the many memories

Before my time but a legend of legends at Brentford. Appearance record holder, captain, never booked. Mr. Bee.

The mention in the programme will be nice but am I out of line suggesting that if there is one player in BFC annals that deserves a proper moment of silence before the Pompey match?...

Ken Coote (RIP)

Very sad.

Had the privelage of seeing him play before he retired, a gentleman on and off the field and the only player who could be called Mr. Brentford.

My sincere condolances to his family.

Perhaps a stand at the new Lionel Road stadium could be named after him.

I vote for the Ken Coote Stand.

I could not agree with you more.I know the club has its rules & that no one person or supporter is the club but if ever there was a case for the rule to be broken then this is it.Even if the club cant do a minutes silence then why not the supporters as the game kicks off the crowd go silent for one minute.Im sure there must be some way it could be done.Ken was a true one club man so one minute for 500 games is asking very little but it could say so much about the new dawn that is coming to BFC

Ken Coote (RIP)

Sad news about a Bees legend. Well before my time as a supporter, but your club's history is a major part of being a football fan. I would think a minute's silence is an excellent idea, but think it would be more appropriate to wait until the first home league game.

Ken Coote (RIP)

Before my time as well but a bees legend who deserves a minutes silence more than any memebr of the royal family, FIFA rep etc.

Ken Coote (RIP)

A true legend whoes commitment should never be forgotten. I agree that there should be a minutes silence before the next home game (black armbands for Pompey).

If, sorry WHEN, we get our new`ground a Ken Coote stand would be a fitting tribute

RIP

Most sincere sympathy goes out to Kens family. I remember Ken playing for the Bees, and I can remember the older fans calling him Mr Reliable. Ken should never be forgotten at Brentford, and for me personally it is a very sad day.

Ken Coote (RIP)

maybe tomorrows game would be more appropriate for a minutes silence, as a pompey legend has also just passed on. gordon neave.

Ken Coote (RIP)

A real Gent

Saw Ken play many, many times, always consistent and a model man and pro. Football could do with more of the same, a sad loss to all of us

Well before my time sadly. If only we had footballers who could understand that kind of loyalty these days.

A true Brentford Legend:cool:

Just back from holiday to read this very sad news.

Ken was one of the real stars during my first visits to GP.

Black armbands for the Portsmouth game please gentlemen and a very appropriate minute silence to signal the passing of a legend before the Peterborough game.

My fading memory always pictures him signing autographs for crowds of kids virtually every week.

Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Folks,
Being both Bee and Pompey, recent passings affect me as much as anyone. In my pompey hats, I posted this on the pompey board this morning. I hope you all concur, and will think not only of Ken, but of other ex-players who now play for the heavenly XI.

The sadness surrounds us all, as we mark the 2nd anniversary of the passing of Flav, and the recent passing of Gordon Neave.

Tonight Pompey travel to Brentford, who have also just heard of the passing of Ken Coote, a long-serving player from the late 50s and early 60s. Ken still holds the appearance record for Brentford, and in his 500 plus games, was never once booked. Ken was, and still is, a legend at Brentford, and is known as 'Mr Bee'.

It is likely that a minutes silence will be held for Ken at the game tonight. Could I ask any Pompey fans attending to honour this should it take place (They may hold it over until the first home league game), and hold the memory of Pompeys own departed in your hearts at the same time.

Many thanks

Ken Coote

Just learned of the passing of Ken Coote, a true Brentford hero and example to all Brentford fans, players and staff of what loyalty is all about and true sportsmanship on the field.

Ken Coote (RIP)

I'm just back from vacation also and concur with all the above. I was shocked to hear of Ken's passing and feel like an entire chunk of my childhood has passed away with him. I saw Ken play during the 1961-2 and '62-3 campaigns and he created an indelible impression on me, in many ways defining the words "professionalism," "class," "good sportsmanship," and "commitment to excellence." One can only wonder at what honours he might have achieved had the Bees not been languishing in the lower division throughout most of his career but it is the career loyalty of team players like Kenny Coote that used to be the very essence of the game and which is sadly lacking in today's era of mercenary nomads roaming from team to team for the highest $$. RIP Ken and many sympathies to your family and friends.

I hope the Chronicle can do a piece on Kenny like I got them to do with Jonny Rainford a while back when he passed away.

Kenny was a special player not only did he stay here for 15 years but he was class.Today he would walk into any first division side and some of the premiers. He went from winger, halfback to full back.

I was lucky to have a few jars with him, Johnny Rainford and big Jim Towers at the White Hart in Whitton Back in the fifties (Rock and Roll).

I have emailed Jim Levack, so I hope the Chronicle do Kenny justice. He deserves it.

Heartwarming to know that Uncle Ken hasn't been forgotten.
We loved him too.

My best memory of Ken was when I attended a training session at GP. Ken turned up on a bike and took off his cycle clips before disappearing into the dressing room, wonderful memories.

Ken Coote (RIP)

Back in 98 or 99, my daughter who was also a season ticket holder did work experience at Brentford during the university summer break working under Mike Hymes (spelling?) and another lovely girl who's name escapes me.
One of her everlasting memories was interviewing Ken at his home for either a programme or a magazine article.
She still talks about that day today.

Ken Coote (RIP)

I saw Ken Coote play in the very first game I went to back in the 50’s.
I always thought of him playing right back, as he always seemed on that side of the pitch defending, when watching us from the Royal Oak Stand.

Or perhaps he was an attacking left back coming towards the Royal Oak! A great player for the Bees and a legend!

Part of a great team of memorable players back then including Rainford, Dargie, Towers, Francis, and also Eric "rabbit" Parsons, a winger who only a season or so before had won the old 1st division title with Chelsea, as a regular first team player.

Probably Michael Hines, ex bees trainee/youth team. Ended up working in the office.
