With all these appreciation threads going on for sodje and hargreaves(and dont get me wrong they are good players), i think that kevin o'connor deserves a pat on the back. Since the season kicked off hes got his head down played in about 3 diffrent positions and has even netted 2 goals for us (making him are joint top scorer so far ) And yesterday he had a brilliant game, man of the match for me!

A very reliable and adaptable player who never bottles anything..hit the post yesterday and should have scored a free header. He could score loads with a little more luck/composure.

A bit of enigma our Kev. Good in any position he plays and yet not quite good enough to hold down first choice in any. The pass and movement game under MA is clearly to his liking and he is improving under this coaching team no doubt.

Yet I sometimes feel he needs to find that extra gear to really establish himself, to mix it a bit like Hargreaves perhaps otherwise he could be the perennial nearly man.

he is no less bulky than tabb,hunt, rhodes, salako etc etc.

he just needs to score a few more goals thats all.

If he continues to develop this ruthless streak he may be able to convert himself back into a striker rather than being happy to be a utility player like he has become. How many other strikers would settle for being played at right back? I hope Kevin isn't. That run in the first half where he cut inside from the right wing and banged a low left footed drive against the post was ace.

A great game on Saturday but no surprise. IMHO he's been our best player this season.

I would definitely keep him in on this form, it doesn't really matter where he plays, he'll do a great job.

I think the opposite. There is nothing wrong with his strength (compare to Rhodes for example), whereas he does seem to often suffer from a lack of confidence. When he does play with confidence, I feel he is often one of the most important members of the team.

Yep im a big fan of Kev, unfortunately agree that at the moment he seems to be a jack of all trades but a master of none. I think we need to get him settled into a position (not sure which one) so he can develop more as a player.

Altho to be fair he could just be a traditional utility player, nothing wrong with that, and theyre bloody useful as weve seen so far this season.

I think Kev looks best on the wing he seems to add strength to the flank which was so badly need due to the lack of pace of dobbo. I know Tabby favours playing on the right but I think the time has come to put him up front with Rankin, bit dodgy leaving out Deon I know but I don't think we can afford to leave out Tabb, O'Connor, Salako, Rankin, Hargreeves and Talbot imho.

Also isn't it time he took the penalites? He was deadly at Bournemouth.

An important member of our squad. Always gives 100% and is improving all the time...hope he's tied up on a lon-term contract...not one of these two year deals!!!!!

O'Connor's problem is that he's slow and not particularly tricky, which means he'll struggle to make an impact as an attacking midfielder, especially as a winger. He's also never quite convinced as an out-and-out centre-forward, BUT - I think he's the best reader of the game at the club, and his passing is usually top-notch.

If he's allowed to play in a role where he doen't have to take people on and beat them, but rather hold the ball up and play others in I think he can be very useful, and he really showed that against Bournemouth.

That might be as a midfield playmaker, but in a 4-4-2 that would probably have to be at Hargreaves' expense, as we need Talbot's ball-winning. Alternatively, he could play Bergkamp to Rankin's Henry , as against Bournemouth, but again its hard to justify leaving Burton out.

Two years is long term at league 1 level if you belong to a club without too much in the way of cash!!
