I like Kevin O'Connor,he's comfortable on the ball and tries to play to feet.Understand he had a good game at Walsall yesterday at fullback.Could he be doing a Ken Coote who started as a winger then half back to probably one of our best ever fullbacks?.Time will tell and Dobbo may have some say in it.

I think we may finally have found Kev's best position, whilst he's always been technically very good, he's never really shone in any other position, although he did have a few good games in centre midfield...

The thing I like best about Kev at right back is that he passes the ball to feet and doesn't always opt for the Dobbo style hoof down into the channels (and off the other end!)

and to be honest i would rather have salako than dobbo in that position

I agree, no contest betrween Salako and Dobbo it has to be JS. Its a shame but competition does wonders for a teams performance so its looking OK at the moment. Any sign of recognition for MA's perceptivness in choosing Kev at full back at the end of last year when the majority of Bees fans were amazed ? - good management I'd say.

Superb performance going forward in the 1st half and superb defending against the fast winger in the 2nd. Still worry that a good winger might find him out but Walsall couldn't.

I think Dobson has looked suspect at full back in the early season games and O'Connor has filled the gap very well. He looks cool under presure and most importantly when he wins the ball he tries to play to feet. Also Dobson would be more effective in midfield and is a very good crosser of the ball. Tabb would play in the hole behind in front two running at defences and making late runs into the box. The key to this formation would be Frampton and Solako overlapping and O'Connor and Dobson overlapping.

I agree that Dobson shouldn't come back into the team at rightback. However with him in midfield the team becomes alot more attack minded as I think he would take the ball forward more than Hargreaves does. He also has the steal to get stuck in when he has to.

I am quite concered about the front two as they aren't playing as a pair very well. I would hope with more service from the midfield they would become a more potent partnership.

Just a thought.

I wouldn't even consider for one moment dropping Hargreaves for Dobson in midfield. Since he came Hargreaves has looked class in the centre of midfield. Sad though it is, I think that Dobson may struggle to get back into the side. Whilst it is nice that he is "Brentford through and through", if there are players ahead of him then he shouldn't play. IMHO it really IS that simple. The best 11 players need to play each week where possible, and if Dobbo is not one of those then so be it.

If Dobbo is going to play it needs to be at right back, and if he is not the best right back then.......

IMHO he has lost a lot since his first injury, and has at time looked very poor.

Not from me, I agree with every word.

- Hargreaves is one of the most important players in the side in my opinion.
- O'Connor looks a better right back than Dobson. Better distribution, more pace, and dare I say it, he even looks as though he has more positional sense at RB than Dobbo. He even looks good going forward.
- Dobbo should struggle to get back in the side. He has lost 1/2 a yard of pace following his various injuries, and unfortunately lately, hasn't looked the player we thought he might turn out to be.

That said, I obviously love the fact that he is Brentford through and through, he can whip over a lovely cross, and he is a 100%er. I'd always make room for him in the squad.

Personally, I dont think Dobbo would make a good enough centre back for this level. Does not read the game well enough in my opinion, poor distribution, not very tall. Although thats just my opinion.

That is just my opinion.... i was just saying that should we leave dobbo out!!! Anyway you proved me wrong i admit it i went to the walsall game and talbot was quality.....he's a rock in the midfield!!!

Dobbo has struggled with injuries for a while now, It has taking it's toll on him & I'm starting to wonder how much this could affect Dobbo. :sad:

How do you know that, many loan players are loaned to gain experience and the loaning club quite often still pay all or most of his wages.

Having looked back at pevious threads how our perception changes and well don MA for making the decision to play Kev at RB ( was a likely candidate for departure last season and now in the absence of Talbot ends up captain!!!) I would imagine his experience up front and in midfield are holding him in good stead now as he shows an ability to read the game well and looks to pass the ball out of defence rather than just an aimless hoof up the wing,
I guess this enforced lay off wil do Dobbo some good and may bring him back as the player he once was in which case it is good competition however on present peomance even the Dobo of old would not be good enough to remove Kev from this position. However one of the plusses in this is that if and when injuries and suspensions kick in Kev can also be used as a utility player in virtually every position seems we have now found Mr versatile !!!!!

Kevin O'Connor is the man of the moment for me.

I never rated him when he played as a striker or anywhere across the midfield, but so far this season his performances at right back have been so impressive. He's so calm, cool, composed & comfortable on the ball. Off the ball, he makes some great forward runs.

It will be an absolute travesty if Michael Dobson walks straight back into the side at right back when he's fully fit.

I can't see that happening. Kev has a superior touch, quicker, looks better going forward, and better positional sense ... Dobbo will be hard pushed to get his place back. With him and Frampton our full backs have been a revelation this season.

Difficult fo me to decide who ahs been our most improved player this season.

A very close call between Kev and Framps. The management team have worked wonders in restoring the confidence and abilities we knew they had but which disappeared under Wally.

Enough of looking back, both players should be 'first picks' when fit and i agree Dobbo is going to have a tough time regaining 'his' position.

dobbo can play anywhere, so is gonna be a valuable member of the squad.. i think he's wasted at RB.. He ran the midifield (ish) vs Burnley a couple years ago.

When Dobbo ran the midfield lets face it there was not a lot of competition, however we now have Talbot, Hargreaves, Eddie (?) Lawrence, plus opf course Solako etc quite where he would fit into that I am not sure, unless there has been a tremendous recovery and he has got back the pace that we once saw I can only see him joining Eddie on the bench and to come in due to injuries and suspensions.
However it must not be forgotten that we have an aging squad and therefore if he has returned at the top of his abilities then next season may be a different prospect
