As all on here we are all allowed to voice our opinion and that's how I feel about the striker situation and yes I know we r only in the first week of jan and I also know that strikers can cost probably more then we can afford just like all of us I want to hear news on a striker rather then defenders coming in

I'm not disagreeing with you but it seems every thread these days turns into debates about strikers and defenders...

This one was about a striker but you had to mention that he won't be interested as he's a striker, but would be if a defender....

take away the loan signings, and obviously the players out on loan as he obviously doesn't like them, we have just 3 CB of which one is likely to be sold. That would leave us with 2. Legge and Eger.

You also got to remember that even with osborne, he has just come back from injury!! So we should have carried on with just 2 defenders instead of loans?? On top of that, we have no cover at either full back spot without the use of loans.
We have plenty of midfield and 3 strikers that whilst I agree need either a kick up the arse or reinforcing, if one gets injured we still at least have some form of cover for him.. if two get injured then ill guarantee he would be getting a panic, rushed striker in.

He obviously doesn't rate wood, spillane and Pim to send out on loan and replace them with loans. sending them on loan and obtaining others probably hasn't cost us much in money terms as one pays for another etc, but he is doing what he feels is right. Other loans have been to cover injuries rather than the sake of it.

He is trying to find one that will score on a regular basis, and remember rightly he thought Clayton would do that after last season.. they are hard to find, agree with club and player to come here and play to our style.

Your not the only one to make petty comments about the strikers not coming in, and defenders are, but its easier to ask for a defender than a regular scorer...

Also do people really think that Uwe isn't looking for a frontman?
Probably restricted by budget and he is just waiting for the right man.

It is MWs job to look for these players as he is Sporting Director.
Frank Nouble on a loan from WHU has been mentioned,wether it was followed up is another thing.

Could be why a move was less likely now per UR's recent remarks. Didn't Nouble play for W Ham at the weekend as they had an injury/suspension crisis?

Wouldn't be too excited byt Nouble tbh. Didn't he do OKish on loan at Gillingham? OKish aint what I'm after. Maybe he did better than OKish.

Think I might be repeating myself but I thought the 'exciting news' about that Under 17s Euro tournament, and our links to it, meant we were going to see some real quality youngsters come our way. With respect, I mean from 'bigger' clubs than Watford and Southampton. Like, erm, Margate and Cliftonville.

To ber fair, I'm not sure it is MWs job to "look for" players. Surerly Uwe should have more input as its his team and tactics players need toi fit into. I thought Warbs looks after the contract side of things. Wasn't him taking this over one of the reasons Justin Edinburgh's old agent left? Think that's what Greg told me. And anyone else who read his last statement. Sorry, waffling now and could not tell you what I started writing in this post.

Yes our sporting director is in charge of player recruitment and he did state in the programme that over the next few weeks that some familiar faces may be leaving and some new faces arriving.
so we will probably get a few more center backs that hopefully can play at right back as well.

So without seeing a smilie I'm assuming your were being serious...
I find it pathetic that people moan about the defence being strengthened when I explained somewhere that we actually have no cover for any position in defence if you take the loans away and exclude the player we sent on loan as uwe obviously doesn't rate them!!

Yes he did play.He seems destined to be loaned out at any given time.Wes Thomas was also mentioned but that wasnt going to happen.

It has been intimated by UWE that any January signings are going to be loans, so dont think any permanent signings are likely to appear, and I suspect at the end of Jan
most of us will probably be disappointed as we have been in the last January windows, looks like we have already lost out on one target and if that was a strike then it
would mean chasing around for a second choice.

Just like we are fed up with the lack of decent striker or two, we currently have three forwards at the club of which one doesn't get a game, so would come into the Uwe doesn't rate bracket. Accept the Bennett signing as we current don't have a fit right back at the club. But we are desparate for two decent forwards, Alexander 5 years ago would be a certain yes and Donaldson doesn't look like he would score if the goal was 20 yards wide. Maybe he will come good in the future or maybe divison two is his level.

'OKish' would be fine with me if it means a few more goals than we would otherwise score at a price that is not exorbitant. Rather this than another fallow transfer window in the forwards department. My preference would of course be for a 20-goal striker but we all know the problem there

Anyway, if we did decide to take a punt he could turn out to be another DJ Campbell or Ricky Reina (kids ask your grandad). The last player we signed from Margate turned out well didn't he.

All threads seem to wander and if thats down to me then accept my humble ones in abundance Sultan.I would like to think that this lad would be on our radar,but cant see it.A decent strike rate and no doubt someone will snap him up.MWs job though as we have no scouts anymore,Just MW database of players.:(

I can't believe you're using this thread to go on about DJ Campbell. He has sooooo many threads of his own. I give up.

He had a spell @ Posh but from what I recall he never made the 1st team.

There was loads of hoo-harr regarding their signing as Posh were accused of tapping him up, he initially signed on non contract terms and played in the reserves, scored a few times then was kicked out on loan to Kings Lynn. Guess he was never gonna get ahead of Mcclean and CMS at that time.

Think he also had a trial @ Forest around the same time.

It does make you wonder if the club do have a scouting network looking at players, like Kwesi, who may have potential, especially from Non-league. 1 or 2 will always make the transition from a lower level to a higher one.

We used to sign non -league gems, but musn't mention their names or the person who signed them or poor old absenteebee bee will "give up"............and we don't want that to happen do we ? :rolleyes:
