Laurence Batty

Batty dropped down to Division Three to sign for Brentford in March 1991. He failed to receive a call into the first team squad and instead played for the reserves, making five appearances before departing at the end of the 1990/91 season.

Batty returned to Non-League football to sign for Isthmian League Division One side Woking in the summer of 1991.

Now Blackburn Rovers goalkeeping coach.

Interesting! I remember him turning out for a Sunday League side I played against soon after he joined Woking. Team based around Fulham IIRC. Played out on field and was fairly decent though not outstanding. Seemed a decent fella.

Decent chap but a bit of a flying pig with a big reputation whose ability didn't match up in my opinion.
Fulham c*** as well lol

Funny, as my son commented in the half-time warm up that their 'keeper must have deliberately kicked the long balls wide to give him some exercise.

Didn't he spend many years as a reserve to the Biggest Fattest C*ntest of a Big Fat **** Goalkeeper over there too?

He was always known as Fatty Batty and that was when he was a fit young keeper!

He was a great keeper for that level and a nice chap too. My path crossed with his a number of times when I first started playing at a decent level and he always took time to speak to younger players.
He was part of the Woking team that had their best ever finishes in the Conference under Geoff Chapple and also won the FA Trophy 2 or 3 times with them. I recall he was slightly peeved that in the run up to the 1993-94 FA Trophy final he missed a league game in which they took the team photo to use in the Wembley match day programme, think it was Tim Reed that made the photo even though he hardly played.

He used to run or own a luggage shop off Earl's Court Rd whilst he was playing. Can't imagine it's still there.
Went on to set up and run a coaching organisation based in Battersea, was very popular last time I looked.

Remember him well as a Woking player but never realised he was with us. Wasn't he part of the 'great' Woking team under Geoff Chapple that also included Clive Walker?
