:) Was in the bar at Honolulu airport waiting for my plane back to the mainland and got chatting to a fellow Brit. Turns out he is Lee Holmes's brother. I mentioned that I was at the game when Lee exited the ground on a motorbike to get to his wedding on time. I was also wearing my Bees away shirt so spent some very pleasant time swapping Brentford stories. Lee is now a civil engineer in charge of some big projects

Given the elbow when a new manager didn't want part-time players on the staff I seem to remember.

Yes, both of them played either up front or wide right, and neither of them was too good - Lee had more promise than Billy, but I think Banana's right about him having to leave as he wouldn't go full-time

He scored a few important goals in the run-in after Callaghan took over. He was a civil engineer, or similar, with the old GLC and didn't want to go full-time as a player. I think he made the right career decision.

He left because Fred Callaghan insisted he go full time and give up his job but stubbornly refused to match the money Lee was earning combining the two on a part time basis.

Lee wanted to stay but when negotiations went nowhere told him where to go and went on to win lots of honours with the likes of Enfield and Wealdstone.

I remember the motorbike to his wedding story, I think from memory he went from Brentford to Barking registry office in about an hour. Left the ground in his kit I believe. At least there were no speed cameras then.

Sorry mate, it's an old GPG childish humour thing. Basically, when someone makes a joke that you either miss the meaning of or don't get then the whoosh signifies it going straight over your head.

As a Brentford fan we've all, at some point, been asked why we support Brentwood. Even last season at Chelsea a girl sitting behind me in hospitality asked if I lived in Essex. So it was funny, you just missed the joke. Hence the whoosh.

Ok I live and learn. I do remember when I first joined the supporters association in the mid 70's my application was delayed because the Royal Mail tried to deliver the letter to somewhere in Brentwood...

Lee worked for the GLC when I was an apprentice there. He was a decent chap and good at his job. If I remember correctly he said he could make more money working as an engineer and playing part time for Enfield(if I recall).

Btw we were in highways and transportation. This is before Thatcher abolished the GLC.

Just this week at work I was introduced to a new colleague who comes from Essex, because: "This is Rich, he supports Brentwood".....

I’d have let out a rip snorting fart, taken the photos of my grand kids off my desk and said “Sorry, I don’t work here anymore”

I remember him being a very good player with lots of potential. I think Mark H might have bumped into him sometime.

I should read the thread rather than just a few posts! Sorry. Going to WH game on Monday with Mick (WH season ticket holder (but he supports Fulham) and Twig) who is a WH supporter. We are in the home end so sit on hands time for me! Using the new Lizzie Line for the first time to go from West Ealing.

Lee was on The Big Match today on itv4 playing for Enfield against Barnsley in the FA Cup. 1980 ish I think.
He was sub but involved in the Enfield equaliser.
