Leeds Predictions

Thursday morning;
In the bucket section of the ironmongery department of Mr Singh's corner shop (Proud home cleaning equipment Partners of Brentford FC 2018-2019); three men, deep in thought, stand and consider the available options. Dean Smith scratches his head, Thomas Frank scratches his chin and Richard O'Kelly scratches his arse (Farmer Giles playing up again). After careful reflection, DS chooses a lovely red one with a white handle, TF goes for a retro brown and orange look; after what seems an eternity RO'K chooses a sturdy galvanised model. Deano bashes the company plastic (15% discount to all Bees) and they emerge into the autumn sunlight carrying their choices. Having read all about the Marcello Bielsa's gimmick, they intend to emulate the table topping coach's behaviour. Who knows, maybe they, like he will gain a unique perspective on the game from the low angle which will enable the Bees to win an away game? It's worth a go.

Given that all rational strategies have fallen short, anything is worth a go to be honest.

Back at Jersey Road gym they decide to try them out and are all sat in a row when Rasmus Ankersen enters the room. "Who the f*ck are you s'posed to f*cking be then?" Demands our Danish DOF. "The three wise f*ckin' monkeys or something? Those Ray Winston "Teach yerself f*ckin English you c*nts" CDs that he got down the car boot sale were never a good idea. "Get the f*ck back out onto the f*cking pitch and knock some f*cking sense into those f*cking overpaid tw*ts out there in them f*cking bras". He points towards a bunch of half-wits (ie our first team squad) who are wearing those funny vest/harnesses that relay data back to the coaches. Our three musketeers blush in unison and leave at a jog.

As they trot over to the lads, Deano has a lightbulb moment. He remembers well the problems he had with Pep, his depressive black labrador dog. After the beast's third escape Mrs Smith had come back from Pets at Home with an electronic collar that administered a mild shock every time the animal strayed. Within days the dog was a nervous wreck, but never absconded again. At lunchtime he gets onto Professor Honeydew at Brentford Labs and by knocking off time a brown paper parcel, his order within, is couriered over to Jersey rd. Sorted

Friday afternoon:
Following arrival in Yorkshire, the boys do a little light training at Garforth Town AFC. Each player' nipples have electrolytic gel applied to them, then each is given a modified vest to wear beneath his shirt. Any mistake during training is punished by a mild electric charge to the player's nipples. It works like a dream and within a few minutes we are back to playing like Barcelona on speed.

Saturday midday:
Team sheets reveal some significant changes. Moses, Nico and Josh Clarke all start. Maupay's on the bench (getting too cocky some say) and Forss starts in his place. The team gingerly don their harnesses and their handsome brown and orange strip.

DS, TF and RO'K sit in a line on their buckets, each of them holding an iPad. Dean controls the forwards, Thomas the midfield and O'Kelly the defence. Yards away El Loco sits on his blue bucket and twitches like a neurotic junkie. He's seriously bonkers.

But, hang on, something's wrong. None of our android players are responding. It's all horribly familiar stuff. We play well without scoring, then a misplaced back pass lets Leeds in and after they've scored we go to pieces and lose shape. The three coaches restart their iPads to no avail. They look at each other in despair.

HT:
Them 1 - Us 0

In the changing room Benrahma changes his perspiration soaked shirt. It is only then that TF notices the small Elastoplast patches on both his nipples. Due to the discomfort from the electricity the lads have used the plasters to minimise the transfer of electricity. O'Kelly rips them - and tufts of Said' s chest hair - off. The Algerian squeals like a stuck pig. Each player in turn suffers the same ignominious fate and eleven smarting players start the second half with all circuits restored.

Straight from the restart we are transformed, the lads respond to every low voltage tweak and we are all over a surprised Leeds. Maupay comes on and does what he does, with two minutes to go it's still one all. The ball falls to Romaine outside the area, an over excited Thomas Frank gives him full voltage, the charge rips through Sawyers' tits down into his leg, BOOOOOOOM. Sparks fly from our boy's boot and the ball rockets into the net. The other lads embrace and him and the combined voltages of all the vests shorts out the circuits. Deano and Frank hug as they jump up and down on their buckets, both buckets collapse and they fall in a heap. Deano clutches his knee, Frank his ankle. O'Kelly falls backwards and strikes his head on the post of the dug out. In the directors box MB looks down and shakes his head wearily. FFS.

Bielsa totally looses it and begins to foam at the mouth, he's forced into a straight jacket and sedated.

It's brilliant.

Full Time
Them 1 - Us 2

Good Times!

On the way back to The Smoke, as the lads look on in hysterics, the electric vests serve to administer emergency ultra-sound treatment to Dean and Thomas' injuries. (ouch)
O'Kelly's head is given a kaolin poultice (one for our older readers there). Luckily for him, the remainder of the cold electrolytic gel is at hand to use as a soothing balm for his haemorrhoids, made worse than ever by the cold galvanised steel of his foolish bucket choice.

Leeds Predictions

The danger is that we'll get run off the pitch by their high intensity pressing game. However, Leeds do have a number of important players unavailable. I think if we add a bit of ballast to the midfield (in the shape of Yennaris and/or Mokotjo) we can make a contest of it:

Leeds United 1 Brentford 1

Leeds Predictions

the only striker they have fit is a young 18 year old so I'm going for a 2-1 win for us

Leeds Predictions

3-1 win for the SuperBees. Oli and Said back. Mojo driving us on and Josh's creative skills. Benters back on his best form. Leeds won't play negatively. It's our turn to beat the 'Champions of Europe' this year. Hoping for the home colours so COYR's.

Leeds Predictions

3 1 win to the Bees Maupay Josh and Oli put us 3 up late goal for the outclassed home side.

Leeds Predictions

It’ll be interesting to see if Leeds can match the intensity of their earlier games after a full on period of matches. They seem to be a few players down and like us not hitting their previous heights. Watkins and Benhrama being out in the week could work in our favour. Going for a 2-2’draw, Maupay and Benhrama

Leeds Predictions

We need to match their intensity and running. Didn't at Derby. Could be a case for including Nico and Mojo in mid with Sawyers? Its a game for big b***ocks..l'm not expecting anything but hoping for a surprise.

Yes agree, we have nothing to lose.

We need to play our way out of the press and only way to do that is quick passing and movement. I wonder whether Leeds will have the legs to execute it as well as they have done though. We also need to keep the ball when we have it so I’d leave Nico to come off the bench to shore things up late on..

Leeds Predictions

Quite surprised Josh and DS both saying we need to play it out quicker from the back, can't understand why they didn't do this.

That's always our approach but sometimes it isn't possible. There are certain games which are a 'fight' and IMO this will be one of them. I'd rather start with the scrappers and make changes after 60 mins when fatigue becomes a factor.Difficult one. Smith will be looking at who he thinks is up for it.

Agree. There were countless times and acres of room to get the ball wide on our left hand side but we diddled and then Josh mostly knocked a pass to our right hand side and into a congested area. You have to play good football at pace and aim to pass it forwards quickly.

Leeds Predictions

This is a nul points one for me I’m afraid. We are not quite firing on all cylinders at the moment. It will come back, but we have not quite hit the heights of the beginning of the season, and certainly not those at the end of last season. I am not enough of a tactician to tell if it is McEachran instead of Woods at the back of the midfield, or maybe the lack of the wiser older head of Bjelland in the back four. Others will no doubt put me right….. ;-) .

Either way, I am confident that we will come good, but right now I think that Leeds are too strong for us.

They said move the ball faster, in attack, specifically to find our extra man

Leeds Predictions

4-1 to dirty Leeds.

A Meltdown is due. :)

Agree, would also start with Canos bringing Benrahma on at 60/65 minutes.

Not enough movement off the ball. Players taking too many touches before moving it on. Lack of awareness of passing options before receiving the ball. Casual attitude and lack of urgency. Those tend to be the main reasons why teams play at a slow tempo sometimes.

Leeds Predictions

Neither team fully on song = an attritional stalemate, with little actual football taking place. (It is live on TV, so we certainly won't perform.)
0 - 0.

Leeds Predictions

Could be anything. I am prepared for nothing from this, however I can't bring myself to predict a score reflecting it. So I will go to the other extreme 0-3! :sorted:

Yep. It does my head in when I hear the shouts of "quicker" and "get it forward", which are aimed at the player with the ball, when it's clear to see that he has no options (other than to pass to somebody who's standing still, with a defender breathing down their neck).

do you actually watch the games ? We pass it around excellently the majority of the time , all the pundits say so and most oppo teams

To be fair, Nick, yes we do, but on Tuesday there were periods where we didn't, because of the lack of movement, hence the stupid shouts I was referring to earlier.

Leeds Predictions

.....be a great place to get our first away win of the season....would inspire a lot of confidence and belief in the side....2-1 to us....here's hoping.

Leeds Predictions

I have a feeling we're gonna really turn up and get our first away win of the season.

Leeds Predictions

When two teams of similar styles play against each other, it's usually the team with the best players that win...which sadly is probably Leeds. But it's football...anything can happen and with Maupay averaging a goal a game and Watkins & Benhrama back in the side we'll cause problems for them. 2-1 or 2-2 for me..

I think you need to go back and read my post in its original context. I was explaining why teams sometimes play at a slow tempo. That should have been clear from the last sentence.

Sometimes we play at a fast tempo and when we do we are very effective. But sometimes we don't and the factors I listed are the reasons why. To answer your question I've seen six of our eleven games and it will be seven tomorrow. Against Rotherham, Stoke, Villa, Wigan I thought we moved the ball around well. Against Blackburn we didn't. And against Derby we were so far off the pace that other factors were more critical.

Leeds Predictions

500+ bees travelling up to Elland Road. Good support considering the time of kick off and price to get into that place. :)

I don’t think this will be a scrap. They’ll come at us and if we’re savvy we can find space and counter attack quickly and with Watkins and Benhrama back I think we can do some damage. They’re not at their best either (Dallas potentially playing LB) and I think if we up our game a little and play at the right tempo we can get something out of it. We need to be able to make the most of possession when we have it so don’t see the point in inhibiting that through our own team selection.

Leeds Predictions

Unfortunately can't see past a Leeds win....not quite happening for us at the moment and we rarely win on the telly....
Dirty Leeds 3-1 Bees (Watkins)
573 good guys there......great effort...

Where's our new mate @Cjay prediction?

Awe shucks.

Its very difficult to predict.

We are very depleted and missing 5 key players for certain.

But your away record isnt good.

Heart says 3-1 us.

Head says 2-2

I dont think we will lose.

Leeds Predictions

If we have kept Leeds out for the first 30 minutes then it could play into our hands if we play our passing game. We usually concede, so 1-1 at worst but, fine margins and all that, we could take this 3-1 as we catch them on the break late on. Watkins, Maupay, Canos.

Leeds Predictions

3-1.. Bees turn up the style.. Maupay, Said & Watkins

I believe Leeds may have scored most second half goals in the championship this season. Same prediction as me though ;)

Leeds Predictions

Well if you're going to predict predict big right?

4-3 Leeds.

Brace from Maupay but a few defensive errors from us that Leeds capitalise on.
