why is there always such secrecy about what happened to tony folan? the bloke could have been a fantastic player and in a way its quite annoying the majority of us (i assume anyway!!) dont know why he went downhill so quickly and disappeared.

Whatever the truth of the matter with TF, the fact is that with the talent with which he was blessed he should still be playing in the Premier League and I am sad that for whatever reasons, however justifiable, a promising career never took off.

It was actually mentioned once that he suffered from clinical depression after his girlfriend left to go back to Ireland and he hit the drink. Put on so much weight in such a short space of time.

as far as I know, It was him that broke it so they sacked him, as they hold his registration they can only release him if receive a fee...

Spent some of Boxing Day with Leon Knight, he's actually not a bad fella as it goes.

Was a bit embarressed when we asked about his track record.
Seems more he has a short fuse than anything else and doesn't think before acting.

He also apologised for scoring against us in the play off whilst at Swansea :sorted:

Looks like I was right, Rushden want £30K for the release of it to sign for Darlo lol The FA can't help him by the looks of itlol

If it is the case that Rushden took up the extra year option just to f*ck him over, surely the PFA or FA can do something. That is bang out of order :nono:

In any job once sacked surely they cannot then extend your contract just to stop you being able to work for another company that is in the same industry.

he walked out on them just like he does at other clubs when he can't get his own way so he sulks, they warned him 2 year ago, If he came back to play in England - Rushden would want a fee for his release. I can't see why it out of order?:wave:

They sacked him though didn't they? It was originally said that they would hold his registration for 2 years.
Then they take up the extra year just to spite him.

Surely as they sacked him they shouldn't have been able to take the extra year option up?

I'm not sure they did, he walked out from what I recall, hense why Rushden wanted to get a fee for his next move:wave:

As far as I have been told the contract was a 2 year with the option of them taking the extra year when his contract ran out. :wave:;)

That appears to be correct, however Knight claims that R&D knew he was training with Darlington for a week and waited until after he had signed the contract [with them] and was ready to play for the first team before they opted for the 3rd year option clause.

He said he was sacked as he was accused of turning up late for training, He said he will only play for teams where he "has a vibe with the manager". And he's probably off abroad.

Not on a personal level but they're pretty entertaining. Even if the option to extend was purely at R&D's discretion and even if (sic) he's a complete wand it seems wrong that they can stop him playing or consider him to have "value" after "sacking" him 2 years back. At the very least I'd have thought he'd have a good shout at claiming to have been constructively dismissed if he's not been paid or allowed to work for the club. His allegations (brown paper bag signing on sweeteners which R&D are holding him to ransom over) are pretty damning if true.
