There’s a 20.24 from Warrington Bank Quay, arrives Euston 22.55. WBQ is a 35-40 min taxi ride away from Anfield if the traffic is ok. Probably too risky.

Yep - we have booked into one in Southport (direct line to Sandhills) - £105.00 - still a rip off though

I remember getting the overnight mail train from Liverpool to Euston after we'd lost 6-2 at Tranmere on a Friday night in 1973. Got into Euston at 4:30 and hung about for the Tube to start running. The previous Friday night we'd lost 2-1 at Swansea, another overnight train, this time getting into Paddington at about 5am. Great memories despite getting relegated.

Just done similar, decent option, only 40 minutes on the train to get to Sandhills, hotel less than half the price of staying in Liverpool.
